SA splits with Eagles, Cavaliers

BERNE — Both Starfire squads settled for a split.
The host South Adams High School girls swim team came up just short of a double win as it scored 129 points to finish behind Delta (144) and ahead of Coldwater (42). The boys team scored 99 points to trail Delta by 65 points, and defeat Coldwater by 71.
Cady Farlow and Kara DeLong each won a pair of events to lead the Starfire girls (12-5), with Farlow taking the 100-yard freestyle in 57.04 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1 minute, 11.57 seconds. DeLong’s wins came with times of 1:03.26 in the 100 butterfly and 1:02.37 in the 100 backstroke.
Farlow and DeLong also teamed with Sidney Sprunger and Victoria Richardson to take the 200 medley relay in 2:03.29.
Drew LeFever paced the boys team (11-4) with his win in the 100 butterfly in 57.45 seconds.

Indians fall from top 10
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls basketball team dropped out of the Division IV top 10 in the Associated Press poll released Tuesday.
The Indians, who were ranked ninth in Division IV last week, finished 13th in the poll voting. They are 10-4 after suffering consecutive losses to Division IV No. 4 Fort Loramie and Division III No. 4 Versailles.
FRHS picked up 16 poll points to finish four behind New Riegel, which was 12th in the voting. Lake Ridge Academy (North Ridgeville) was 10th with 28 points.
Ottoville (15-0) continues to lead the Division IV poll with 205 points.


FR freshmen win
COLDWATER, Ohio — Three players scored in double figures Tuesday to lead the Fort Recovery freshman boys basketball team to a 52-44 victory over the Coldwater Cavaliers.
Wes Wenning finished with 13 points and five rebounds for the Indians (5-0), who were up by six after the opening period.
Jackson Hobbs matched Wenning with 13 points, and Chase Bruns followed with 11.

Tribe girls split
COLDWATER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team fought back from an early deficit Tuesday to knock off the Coldwater Cavaliers 29-27. The eighth grade squad lost, 25-13.
Grace Thien scored eight points to pace the FRMS seventh graders (11-2), who rallied after trailing 17-11 at the end of the opening period. Carley Stone added six points.
Devin Post finished with seven points for the eighth grade team, which slipped to 6-7. Grace Gehle scored three points.[[In-content Ad]]
