SA stumbles at Winchester (12/06/06)

WINCHESTER - South Adams' girls team managed double-digit points in just one quarter Tuesday. The Starfires scored just a single point in the first quarter, falling 61-27 to the Winchester Golden Falcons.

Winchester (7-1), which was 19th in this week's Class 2A voting by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association, took a 15-1 lead in the opening period and had the Starfires (2-6) looking at a 22-point halftime deficit.

Kayla Coblentz led South Adams, which shot just under 20 percent for the contest, with seven points. She also had eight rebounds, three assists and three steals, all of which were team highs.

Katie Nichols scored six points, and Andrea Moser and Bethany Balsiger each had four rebounds.

Five Golden Falcons reached double figures, with Chelsea Hawley leading the way with 13 points. Morgan Peacock had 12 points, Alli Woodbury scored 11 and Kelsey Tarter and Mallory McCormick each had 10.

South Adams also dropped the junior varsity contest, 53-18.

Fort teams top Panthers

ROCKFORD, Ohio - The Fort Recovery eighth grade girls team stayed perfect Tuesday while the seventh graders picked up their first win. The eighth grade squad topped the host Parkway Panthers 54-19 while the seventh grade team won 35-26.

Kendra Brunswick racked up 14 points for the Indian eighth graders (2-0) and got plenty of support from her teammates. Nicole Dilworth, Olivia Thien, Holly Thien, Shelby Brunswick and Stacy Will each added six points.

Kelly Nietfield led the Tribe seventh grade team (1-1) with 12 points. Becca Tobe followed with six.

Chiefs win pair

UNION CITY - East Jay's boys teams put up matching point totals Tuesday as they each evened their record at 2-2. The Chief eighth graders knocked off Union City Westside 39-32 while the seventh grade team rolled to a 39-19 victory.

Drew Houck was the only East Jay player to reach double figures on the evening, scoring 16 points for the eighth grade team. Brandon Kaufman added seven points.

Darren Scott led a balanced seventh grade effort with eight points. Jordan McBride followed with six.

Panthers defeat FR boys

ROCKFORD, Ohio - Opening night didn't treat the Indians well Tuesday. Fort Recovery's seventh and eighth grade boys teams dropped their first games of the year to the Parkway Panthers by scores of 23-19 and 47-29 respectively.

The seventh graders trailed by just one at the half and two after three quarters, but were unable to comeback. Jared Kahlig scored 10 points, and Derek Rammel had four.

The eighth grade game was tied after the opening quarter before Parkway opened a six-point halftime lead and continued to pull away. John Homan put in 15 points for the Tribe, and Nate Bihn scored five.[[In-content Ad]]
