SA swimmers defeat Norwell (12/19/2008)

OSSIAN - Alex Habegger and Justin Klopp each won a pair of individual events Thursday to lead the South Adams High School boys swim team to a 96-89 victory over the host Norwell Knights.

The Starfire girls team took first place in just one event in a 101-82 defeat.

Habegger won the 100-yard backstroke by seven seconds in 1-minute, 5.1 seconds and the 100 butterfly by 13 seconds at 1:01.43. Klopp also dominated his events with a win by 17 seconds in the 200 freestyle at 1:50.52 and by 35 seconds in the 500 freestyle in 5:04.69.

The duo also teamed with Caleb Wurster and Cole Farlow to take the 200 medley relay in 1:52.88 and joined Eric Feeney and Caleb Wurster to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:50.97.

Wurster added a victory in 2:17.97 in the 200 individual medley.

The only win for the SAHS girls team came from Jansen Yoder, Jalisa Balsiger, Kenzie Rupp and Alyssa Sharp in the 200 freestyle relay at 1:58.84.

JC grapplers win

MUNCIE - The Jay County High School wrestling team went 4-1 Saturday to win the Delta Duals.

The Patriots dominated Fort Wayne North Side 66-9, Greensburg 70-9 and the host Eagles 57-17. They also defeated Adams Central 44-26.

JCHS lost 36-28 to Greenwood head-to-head, but won the duals tiebreaker by six points to take the top spot overall.

Casey Kenney kept his perfect record in tact as one of four Patriots who went undefeated on the day. Caleb Culy, Ben Theurer and Sha White all went 5-0 as well.

Jay JV blasts AH

Jay County High School's junior varsity girls basketball team dominated the second and third Saturday in a 44-20 victory over the visiting Anderson Highland Scots.

The Patriots and Scots were tied after the opening period, but JCHS outscored Highland 17-4 in the second to take control. It added a 14-4 advantage in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

Brittany Manor hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 10 points to lead the Patriots. Mariah Hornaday and Katie Butcher added nine points apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
