SA swimmers defeat the Jets

MONROE — The Starfire girls stayed undefeated Tuesday while the boys opened their season with a victory.
Michaela Rupp, Cady Farlow and Kara DeLong each won a pair of events to lead the South Adams High School girls swim team to a 124-43 victory over the host Adams Central Flying Jets. Cory Sank led the boys team to a 99-64 win.
Rupp led two of the Starfires’ nine one-two finishes, winning the 100 freestyle in front of teammates Sylvia Marbach and Ellie Kaverman in 1 minute, 7.24 seconds, and taking first place in the 50 freestyle ahead of Kaverman in 29.25.
Farlow was first in the 200 individual medley in 2:27.18 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.93, and DeLong scored wins in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.02 and the 200 freestyle at 2:10.22.
Sank was the lone double winner for the boys team as he posted victories in the 200 freestyle in 2:07.86 and the 500 freestyle in 5:44.49.
Eagles move to 4-0
DUNKIRK — West Jay Middle School’s seventh grade boys basketball team stayed perfect with a 34-29 win Tuesday over the visiting Bluffton Tigers.
The eighth graders scored a 37-32 victory.
Connor Davis finished with 10 points and seven rebounds to lead the Eagle eighth grade squad, which improved to 4-0.
Jordan Stultz added eight points.
Dakota Grove totaled 14 points for the WJMS eighth grade team (3-1). Andrew Trewyn was right behind Grove with 13 points.
WJ girls top Bluffton
BLUFFTON — The West Jay girls basketball teams each picked up victories Tuesday, with the eighth graders edging the Bluffton Tigers 18-16. The seventh grade team won 21-6.
Sami Back finished with six points to lead the Eagle eighth grade squad (1-1). Kyndal Miller added five points.
Kimber Harris scored nine points to pace the WJMS seventh graders, who improved to 2-0. Devin Foltz and Kaelyn Weaver each had four points.
East Jay girls win
WINCHESTER — East Jay’s eighth grade girls basketball team dominated the opening quarter Monday on the way to a 38-18 victory over host Driver. The seventh graders won 29-17.
Taylor Homan totaled 13 points to lead the eighth grade Chiefs, who were up 14-0 after the first period. Britlyn Dues followed with eight points.
Katie Beougher finished with 10 points to lead the EJMS seventh grade team. Betsy Muhlenkamp scored eight.[[In-content Ad]]
