MUNCIE - The South Adams High School swim teams came out on top of a pair of close battles Tuesday.
The boys team fought off Delta 97-89 while the Starfire girls picked up a 98-85 victory over the host Eagles.
Caleb Wurster and Alex Habegger were part of five of the six wins for the boys team while Waugh earned half of the individual victories for the girls.
Wurster won the long distance boys events with times of 5 minutes, 30.35 seconds in the 500-yard freestyle and 2:00.41 in the 200 freestyle. Habegger took the top spot in the 200 individual medley in 2:15.02, and won the 100 breaststroke at 1:04.98.
The pair also teamed with Cole Farlow and Derek Kirchhofer for a winning time of 1:52.96 in the 200 medley relay.
Waugh's first victory came by more than 20 seconds as she won the 500 freestyle in 5:39.01. She also took the top spot at 1:05.27 in the 100 backstroke.
Lance Hummer finished first in diving for the SAHS boys. The girls team also picked up wins from Alexia Fox in the 100 butterfly and Allison Beitler in the 100 freestyle.
Starfire girls fall
FORT WAYNE - South Adams' girls basketball team dropped its fifth straight game Tuesday 40-37 to the host Blackhawk Christian Braves (6-10).
Lyndsey Chandler totaled 10 points for the Starfires (2-13), who trailed 16-15 at halftime. Tori Kistler and Karen Bollenbacher had nine points apiece.
The last win for South Adams came Dec. 14 over Wes-Del.
In the junior varsity game, Kristen Musselman scored seven points as SAHS suffered a 26-23 defeat.
Rangers top Fort
FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team slipped below .500 Tuesday with a 27-22 loss to the New Knoxville Rangers. The eighth graders fell 23-19.
Tori Lennartz had 10 points for the seventh grade Indians, who are now 6-5. Kara Jutte scored six points.
Lexi Schmitz had nine points for the Tribe eighth graders (3-6). Kelsee Ontrop followed with six points.[[In-content Ad]]
