SA tankers crush Rebels

MUNCIE — The South Adams High School swim teams won all but two events Thursday in a couple of wins over the Muncie Southside Rebels.
Michaela Rupp and Erika Waugh each won a pair of events as the girls rolled to a 128-55 victory, and Jacob Werst and Joel Schmidt took two events apiece as the boys scored a 140-36 win.
Rupp handled the  long-distance events, taking the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 37.33 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 6:44.24. Waugh was first with times of 1:04.44 in the 100 butterfly and 1:04.31 in the 100 backstroke.
Schmidt’s victories came in the 200 individual medley in 2:31.9 and the 100 freestyle in 58.53 while Werst turned in winning times of 2:13.3 in the 200 freestyle and 6:05.11 in the 500 freestyle.

Other victories came from Brooke Kirchhofer, Alex Fox, Olivia Turner and Emily Miller for the girls, and Cole Farlow, Lance Hummer, Caleb Wurster and Bobby Switzer for the boys.

Eagle boys split
MARION — West Jay Middle School’s seventh grade boys basketball team scored a 28-18 victory Thursday over host Eastbrook. The eighth graders fell 34-19.
Kyler Carvel finished with 10 points as the WJMS seventh graders improved to 6-2.
Daniel Meranda had nine points, and Will Watson scored eight.
Nate Brackman finished with 11 points and six rebounds for the eighth grade Eagles. Dakota Pettus had four points.

EJ blasts North Side
The East Jay wrestling team dominated visiting Muncie Northside Thursday for a 66-24 victory.
Hunter Gillette turned in the fastest of the Chiefs’ five pins, winning his 152-pound match in just 25 seconds. Other pins came from Colton Compton (80), Alex Abbott (100), Levi Hummel (135) and Logan Antrim (HWT).
Picking up exhibition wins for East Jay were Compton (80), Mitchell Bruggeman (85), Noah Hirschy (100), Matt Blackford (110), Dustin Cope (152), Nate Stumpff (HWT), Alex Pfiefer (HWT) and Chris Pfeifer (HWT).

Tribe 7th wins
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s seventh grade boys basketball team defeated the Coldwater Cavaliers 36-23 Thursday. The eighth graders lost, 32-19.
Jackson Hobbs led the seventh grade team to its victory with 11 points. J.J. Overton added nine points.
Cole Hull scored eight points to lead the eighth graders. Evan Schoen had five points.

WJMS girls lose
The West Jay eighth grade girls basketball team lost 23-8 Thursday to South Adams and the seventh grade squad fell 18-6.
Kay Morgan scored six points to lead the Eagle eighth graders (2-6). Serrena McCaffery and Mekayla Nichols each had two points for the seventh grade team (1-6).

Driver tops Chiefs
East Jay’s eighth grade boys basketball team dropped a 35-19 decision Thursday to visiting Winchester Driver. The seventh graders also lost, 34-19.
Justin Dirksen had nine points to lead the eighth grade Chiefs (6-3), who were outscored 16-11 in the final period. Zach Pryor followed with eight points.
Bowen Runyon finished with seven points for the seventh grade squad, which led by one after the first quarter before falling behind by eight at halftime. Bryce Hensley added five points.[[In-content Ad]]
