Local Roundup

Freshmen Channing Yoder and Haleigh Lehman were again the team leaders as the South Adams girls swim team kept its undefeated streak rolling.

The Starfires cruised to their third straight win to open the season, topping the Marion Giants 117-63 Tuesday.

South Adams won every event by a large margin, and took first and second place in a pair of events. Yoder and Lehman led the sweep, each winning a pair of individual events and contributing to two relay victories.

Yoder continued her early-season success starting with a victory in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1-minute, 2.62 seconds. She was also first in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:19.79.

Lehman dominated the freestyle, no matter what the distance. She won the 50-yard freestyle in 27.65, and took the 500-yard freestyle by more than half a minute as she hit the wall in 6:15.57.

The freshman duo also teamed with Ashley Gresla and Margaret Beymer for a winning time of 4:25.42 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Yoder joined Robyn Habegger, Whitney Liechty and Gresla to win the 200-yard medley relay in 2:14.28. Lehman added her other victory as she teamed with Chelsea Yoder, Talitha Maven and Habegger for first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:55.43.

Also recording a pair of individual wins for the Starfires was junior Whitney Liechty. She took the 200-yard individual medley in 2:17.62 and the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:12.79.

Habegger completed the 100-yard backstroke in 1:15.05 for her lone individual win. Chelsea Yoder took the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:17.62.

South Adams will look to remain undefeated when it hosts the Adams Central Jets Monday at 5:30 p.m. The meet against the Jets will be the season-opener for the Starfire boys team.
