SA tops Bluffton, Heritage

BLUFFTON — Neither conference rival was able to keep up with the Starfires.
Aleesha Goodwin won a pair of events to lead the South Adams High School girls track team to a 74-point effort in a victory over Heritage (46) and Bluffton (36). The boys team was also victorious as it finished with 73 points to beat the host Tigers (44) and Heritage (36).
Goodwin controlled the distance events for the SAHS girls with winning times of 6 minutes, 13 seconds, in the 1,600-meter run, and 13:52 in the 3,200 run. The Starfires added a win in the 4x800 relay.
The South Adams boys were also strong in the distance races with Simon Sprunger taking the 800 run in 2:09, Brody Shane winning the 1,600 run in 4:51 and Daniel Velasco first in the 3,200 run in 11:32.
Other wins came from Kelli Lehman, Leah Mitchel and Hannah Mitchel for the girls team, and Dalton Hall, Cam Lengerich and Sam Dellinger for the boys.
Softball loses
BERNE — South Adams suffered its second conference loss in as many games Tuesday, falling 4-2 to the visiting Garrett Railroaders.
The Starfires (4-5), who lost to Heritage on Saturday, fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning and never led. Garrett scored two more runs in the third inning while SAHS tallied single runs in the first and third.
Alyssa Bluhm took the loss, giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks. She struck out three batters.
Bluhm hit a solo home run as she led the SAHS offense. She finished 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Alaina Johnston added a hit and an RBI, and Loren Sparks and Brandy Rodgers had one hit apiece.
AC tops girls tennis
MONROE — The Starfires dropped to 2-6 Tuesday with a 5-0 loss to the host Adams Central Flying Jets.
Holly Taylor and Alyssa Armenta played the closest match for South Adams, winning a second-set tiebreaker before falling 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1 to Abby Snydes and Katie Carroll. Shiana Scott and Brittany Potts dropped the No. 2 doubles match 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) to Aubrie Sanders and Heather Gerber.
Maddie Graber fell 6-1, 6-0 to Jessica Ripley at No. 1 singles, and Maddy Kloepper dropped the No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-0 to Lydia Johnson. Erika Miller lost 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
The Starfire junior varsity team lost 9-1 with the lone victory coming from Riley Liechty at No. 2 singles.[[In-content Ad]]
