SAHS blasts the Warriors

GASTON — Midway through their season, the Starfires have already won more games than they did in any of the last three years.
South Adams High School’s girls basketball team halted a three-game losing streak Monday, improving to 4-6 with a 60-20 slaughter of the host Wes-Del Warriors.
The Starfires’ four victories are the most they have recorded in a season since going 8-13 in 2008-09.
Junior Dzejna Ahmetovic racked up 20 points Monday to lead SAHS, which was in control from the start. It jumped out to a 19-4 lead after one quarter as it rolled over the Warriors (0-9).
Alyssa Bluhm added 17 points, and Sharon Balsiger also reached double figures with 10.
Abbie Rooker totaled seven points for Wes-Del.

JC 11th in 4A voting
INDIANAPOLIS — The Jay County boys basketball team took one step closer to the top 10 as it finished 11th in this week’s Class 4A poll voting by The Associated Press.
The Patriots (4-0), who were 12th in the voting last week, totaled 47 poll points. No. 10 North Central (3-2) had 67 points, and No. 12 Jeffersonville (3-0) finished with 40. Carmel (4-0) stayed in the top spot in Class 4A with Indianapolis Pike (5-0) second.
Jay County leads Class 4A in margin of victory at 33.3 points per game, and is second with a defensive average of 37.3.
All three of the teams the Patriots will compete with at the Hall of Fame Classic are ranked in the top 10 in the Class 4A poll. Fort Wayne Northrop is No. 4, Indianapolis Tech is No. 6 and Indianapolis Cathedral is No. 8.

Tribe freshmen split
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s freshman boys basketball team opened its season Monday with a 46-43 victory in overtime over the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds. The girls team fell 32-29 to the Anna Rockets.
Darien Sheffer tallied 11 points to lead the Indian boys. J.J. Overton added 10 points, and Ross Homan finished with eight.
Kristen Jutte scored eight points for the FRHS girls (0-2). Julie Wendel added five points.

Russia defeats FR
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery Middle School boys basketball teams each fell Monday to the Russia Raiders. The eighth grade team suffered a 51-39 defeat, and the seventh graders lost 28-26.
Micaiah Cox scored more than half of the points for the Indian eighth graders (2-2) as he finished with 22. Caleb Martin added eight points.
Cade Wendel notched 13 points for the FRMS seventh grade squad (1-3). Ryan Braun scored 11 points.[[In-content Ad]]
