SAHS clobbers Southern Wells

PONETO — A seven run second inning broke open Monday’s game as the South Adams High School softball team crushed the host Southern Wells Raiders 17-6 in six innings.
Leadoff hitter Alaina Johnston went 3-for-4 with a double, five RBIs, three runs and two stolen bases for the Starfires (2-3), who took a 10-3 lead after two innings. SAHS added four runs in the fourth inning and ended the game early with three more in the sixth.
Alexis Ford and Lyndsey Chandler each had three hits, Alyssa Bluhm and Loren Sparks added two RBIs apiece and Brianna Nevil scored three times.
Lilly Taing pitched for her first win of the year, giving up six runs — two earned — on four hits and five walks. She struck out four batters.

Baseball rolls
PONETO — The visiting Starfires tallied four runs in each of the first two innings Monday in a 13-3, five-inning victory over the Southern Wells Raiders.
Corey Seffernick led the offensive outburst for South Adams, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs. Collin Affolder had two hits and three RBIs, and Dustin Wanner finished with three hits and two runs.

Kyle Raugh and Blake Fox each scored a pair of runs.
Fox picked up the victory as he limited Southern Wells to three runs — two earned — on five hits and a walk. He struck out five batters.

JH track falls
The South Adams junior high boys track team lost 74-41 to the Leo Lions on Monday while the girls fell 81-30.
Emma Rosswurm won the 100-meter dash in 13.84 seconds and the high jump at 4 feet, 7 inches for the girls team. Drew LeFever took the top spot in the shot put at 37 feet, 8 inches and the discus at 109 feet, 1 inch for the boys.
