SAHS defeats Golden Falcons (09/23/05)

Volleyball roundup

WINCHESTER — South Adams picked up back-to-back wins for the second time this season Thursday, following up Tuesday’s victory over Garrett with a 25-23, 17-25, 25-14, 25-22 win over the Winchester Golden Falcons.

Renee Neuenschwander powered South Adams (5-11) in the victory with team highs of 12 kills, 12 digs and three aces. She also had a pair of blocks.

Brooke Fox followed with 11 digs and 10 kills, Andrea Moser had six kills and two blocks and Tamara Moser finished with three blocks and two aces. Alyssa Miller totaled 28 assists.

South Adams dropped the junior varsity match 25-24, 19-25, 15-7.

Rangers edge Fort

FORT RECOVERY — The Indians are still looking for that big win.

Fort Recovery dropped another match to a state-ranked opponent Thursday, falling 21-25, 25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 15-10 to the Division IV No. 16 New Knoxville Rangers.

The Tribe spikers, ranked 19th in Division IV, are now 7-5 overall and 2-2 in the Midwest Athletic Conference. Their other losses have come to Division III No. 2 Versailles and No. 15 Anna, and Division IV No. 1 Sidney Lehman Catholic and No. 5 Old Fort.

Tiff Gaerke finished with 25 kills, 14 digs and four blocks, all team highs, as the Indians fell short. She also had five points.

Kristen Schwieterman had 12 points and 11 digs, Kelly Link notched 10 points and nine kills and Lauren Wenning had 11 kills and four blocks. Vicki Roessner had 12 digs, and Rachel Stahl totaled nine points.

Warriors down Jay

GASTON — Jay County slipped to 5-17 on the season as it fell 25-16, 25-19, 29-27 to the Wes-Del Warriors Thursday.

Junior setter Erica Clark finished with 12 assists. She was also second on the team in digs (four), aces (two) and blocks (one), and added three kills.

Markie Runyon finished with seven kills and two blocks, Theresa Reinhart had four kills and seven digs and Kelly Sautbine notched four kills and three aces. Sarah Mescher also had four kills.

Tribe JV still perfect

FORT RECOVERY — Sarah Braun had another big match as Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team stayed undefeated with a 25-23, 25-9 victory over the New Knoxville Rangers.

Braun scored a huge 19 points to lead the Indians (8-0, 4-0 Midwest Athletic Conference). She also had seven digs, four kills and two blocks.

Joanna Snyder had eight digs and four points, and Kinsey Wenning finished with six kills and four blocks. Heather Schmackers totaled 16 assists and four points, and LeAnne Tobe had seven kills.

Jay drops JV match

GASTON — Jay County’s junior varsity spikers lost to Wes-Del Thursday, 25-17, 25-14.

Julie Alig had two kills and two digs in the defeat. Stephanie Wellman finished with five digs.

Sharon Dirksen had three assists, Amber Cotherman notched two digs and Sarah Westgerdes added a pair of blocks.

Indians defeat Chiefs

FORT RECOVERY — The Indians won the border battle Thursday, taking both matches as it hosted East Jay. Fort Recovery’s eighth grade team rolled to a 25-8, 25-17 win, and the Tribe seventh graders edged the Chiefs 25-11, 15-25, 15-10.

Alyssa Brackman led the Indian eighth graders as they improved to 8-1. She had match highs of 11 points and four kills.

Josie Guggenbiller added seven points, and Lorraine Shier had four kills.

Lindsey Wellman had four points, two aces, two digs and two blocks for East Jay. Pazia Speed had three points and two aces, Becky Muhlenkamp added two aces and two blocks and Kelsey Wood had four points.

Barbie Link powered Fort Recovery’s seventh graders with 12 points. Holly Brunswick had eight points, and Olivia Thien added two kills.
