SAHS defeats Jets, Railroaders

MONROE — Conference foes pushed them, but the Starfires stayed perfect.
The South Adams High School track teams each improved to 3-0 Tuesday as they won a three-team meet at Adams Central. The boys team scored 69 points to finish ahead of the host Flying Jets (52) and the Garrett Railroaders (35). The girls scored 62 points with Garrett (51) second and Adams Central (43) third.
Brody Shane and Cam Lengerich each took two wins to lead the Starfire boys, with Shane winning the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 11 seconds, and the 1,600 run in 4:59. Lengerich took the 110 hurdles in 17.6 and the long jump at 19 feet, 2¼ inches.
Hannah Mitchel led the girls team with victories in the shot put at 35 feet, ¼ inch and discus at 100 feet even.
Kristen Muselman, Aleesha Goodwin, Sam Dellinger and Daniel Velasco also earned wins.

Tribe falls in MAC
FORT RECOVERY — Errors hurt the Fort Recovery baseball team Tuesday as it dropped its Midwest Athletic Conference opener 9-3 to the visiting St. Henry Redskins.
The game was tied at 1-1 through four innings before St. Henry (4-2, 1-0 MAC) took control with six runs in the top of the fifth. The Indians (7-3, 0-1 MAC) committed five errors, allowing six unearned runs.
Jackson Hobbs suffered his first loss, giving up seven runs — one earned — on seven hits and three walks in five innings. The freshman had not allowed a run in his first two starts.
Jacob Muhlenkamp finished 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in a run for Fort Recovery. Collin O’Dell and Cole Wendel each finished with a hit and a run.
FRHS dropped the junior varsity game 6-5 with Derek Backs going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.


SA netters lose
BERNE — The South Adams girls tennis team dropped to 0-2 Tuesday with a 5-0 loss to the visiting Northfield Norsemen.
The Starfire duo of Holly Taylor and Madison Graber won their first set at No. 1 doubles, but went on to fall 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 to Alyssa Richter and Leanne Beck. Alyssa Armenta and Shiana Scott dropped the No. 2 doubles match 6-1, 6-4 to Ciara Ritchie and Jensen Zumbaugh.
Madison Kloepper of SAHS fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Erika Miller lost the No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-1 to Elaina Terrell, and Jennifer Potts dropped the No. 3 singles match 6-1, 6-3 to Natalie Schuler.
SAHS won the junior varsity match 5-2 behind shutout wins from Riley Liechty and the team of Ellie Kaverman and MaJena Gerber.

Pugh wins 100 dash
FORT RECOVERY — Sierra Pugh picked up the only victory for the Fort Recovery track teams Tuesday as they hosted New Knoxville and Russia.
The Indian girls placed second by one point over New Knoxville with 34 points while Russia won with 88. The Tribe boys (13.5) were last behind Russia (93.5) and New Knoxville (51).
Pugh edged Kaitlyn Barlage of Russia at the finish line to win the 100-meter dash. Both runners finished with times of 14.3 seconds.
Adding second-place efforts  for the Fort Recovery girls were Elle Sutter in the 1,600 run and 3,200 run, and Hannah Kaup in the long jump.
David Trobridge placed second in the 100 dash and 200 dash for the Tribe boys. Derek Sutter was the runner-up in the 3,200 run.[[In-content Ad]]
