SAHS defeats Raiders

South Adams roundup

BERNE — The South Adams High School baseball team fought off the visiting Southern Wells Raiders Monday for a 7-5 victory.
Taylor LeFever led the win with a home run for the Starfires (3-1), who took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Dustin Wanner added a double and a triple.
Wanner also picked up the victory as he struck out eight batters in five innings. He allowed four runs — three earned — on six hits and four walks.
Alex Augsberger picked up the save, striking out three batters while allowing a run in two innings.

Raiders top softball
BERNE — The Starfires scored three times in the bottom of the second inning, but were shut out the rest of the way in a 5-3 loss to the Southern Wells Raiders. Both squads are now 1-2.

Alyssa Bluhm suffered the loss for South Adams, which gave up five runs on 10 hits and three walks. She struck out eight batters.
Lily Taing passed the Starfires’ offense with a double, two RBIs and a run. Brittany Pugsley added a single and a run, and Jennifer Miller had a double.

MS track loses
LEO — South Adams’ middle school girls track team lost 67-42 Monday to the Leo Lions, and the boys team fell 80-28.
Caroline Kloepper was the lone double winner for the Starfires, taking the 400-meter dash in 1 minute, 16 seconds and the high jump at 4 feet, 2 inches. Ellie Kaverman won the discus for the girls team at 74 feet, 2 inches, and Alaina Johnston was first in the long jump at 13 feet, 8½ inches.
The SAMS boys team’s only victory came from the team of Kody Coates, Gabe Schwartz, Xavier Rupp and Justin Nussbaum in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:40.[[In-content Ad]]
