SAHS finishes second

BERNE — Three Starfires each scored three times in the opener, but they couldn’t find enough offense in the championship game.
The host softball team finished as the runner-up Saturday in the South Adams High School Invitational, falling 3-1 to the Monroe Central Golden Bears in the championship game.
SAHS defeated Wabash 17-0 in five innings in the opening round.
Alyssa Blum singled and scored the lone Starfire run in the title game after going 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, four RBIs and three runs in the opener. Alaina Johnston had three hits and three runs against Wabash.
Loren Sparks took the loss in the championship game, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks. Bluhm won the opener as she tossed a two-hit shutout.
South Adams also beat Snider 8-1 on Friday behind two hits, three runs and two RBIs from Bluhm.

Jay JV splits
CENTERVILLE — Jay County’s junior varsity baseball team split games Saturday, defeating the Centerville Bulldogs 8-7 and falling 12-1 to Franklin County.
The Patriots (9-13) trailed by three against Centerville before pulling even at 7-7 two runs in the sixth inning. Thomas Boozier scored the game-winning run as a pinch runner in the seventh.
Levi Stant led JCHS with three hits and three runs, and Lucas Hendee had two hits, two runs and two RBIs.
Austin Beasley got the win in relief, limiting the Bulldogs to a run on two hits in three innings.
Mitchell Kunkler singled and drove in Hendee with the Patriots’ lone run against Franklin County. Hendee suffered the loss as he gave up five runs — three earned — in 3 1/3 innings.

Tribe JV wins pair
ARCANUM, Ohio — The Fort Recovery junior varsity baseball team finished above .500 thanks to a doubleheader sweep Saturday over the Arcanum Trojans. The Indians won the opener 6-3 and finished off their season with a 2-1 victory.
Adam LeFevre had two doubles and two RBIs in the opener, and Derek Backs went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Jacob Westgerdes scored twice and drove in a run.

Kyle Schroer led the Tribe (11-10) to its season-ending victory, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Chase Bruns singled and scored a run.
Schroer won the opener, and Brandon Schoen picked up the win in game two.
Nate Lochtefeld tossed two innings of relief to earn the save in game two.

McFarland lifts ACE
Conner McFarland drove in what proved to be the game-winning run Saturday in All-Circuit Electric’s 4-3 victory over Barnett’s Auto Parks in Portland Junior League Rookie baseball.
McFarland, who had three hits, a run and an RBI, doubled home Cody Rowles in the fourth inning to give All Circuit a 4-1 lead. Barnett’s scored twice in the top of the fifth before its comeback attempt fell short.
Also in Rookie baseball Saturday, Ronald Wagner had three hits, three runs and three RBIs as Fisher Meats topped Williams Auto Parks 10-4.
Lydia Keihn had four hits, four runs and an RBI in Brewster Electric’s 12-5 Rookie softball win over Portland Optimist. Renna Schwieterman finished with five hits, four RBIs and three runs to lead Jay County REMC past First Merchants 17-3.

Kuss leads Purple
Abbi Kuss powered Purple on the opening day of action in Redkey Junior League, leading her team to a 10-9 win over Pink in Minor softball.
Kuss finished 4-for-4 with four runs, and Jozey Shimp added three hits and a run. Eden Abshire and Jaidi Brunson each had three hits and two runs in Yellow’s 9-5 win over Purple.
Hannah Ault went 4-for-4 with a double and three runs to lead Red to a 15-7 win over Yellow in Major softball, and Riley Leavell had two hits and a run in Blue’s 9-1 win over Yellow.
Parker Nichols went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs as the Mets topped the Yankees 5-2 in Minor baseball, and Corey Lennington had a single, two doubles and two runs to lead the Reds past the Cubs 11-3.
Noah Arbuckle finished with a double, a triple and two runs as the Cubs beat the Red Sox 11-4 in Major baseball, and Quinn Faulkner had a double and a run in the Reds’ 11-3 victory over the Yankees.[[In-content Ad]]
