SAHS girls basketball falls

BERNE — The South Adams High School girls basketball team slipped to 1-6 Saturday with a 45-23 loss to the visiting Heritage Patriots.
The Starfires, who played the first half without starters Katrina Hawkins and Taylor Farlow because of a violation of team rules, went scoreless in the first quarter and trailed by 12 at halftime. They managed just two points in the third quarter as Heritage pulled away.
Alyssa Bluhm and Hawkins each scored seven points for the Starfires. Kristen Muselman grabbed four rebounds.
Corinne Priest and Jaci Hoffman each scored 11 points to pace the Patriots.
SAHS also suffered a 36-26 loss Thursday to the host Burris Owls. It led 14-7 in the opening quarter, but managed just one second-quarter point and got outscored 29-12 the rest of the way.
Hawkins led the Starfires with six points, nine rebounds and four assists. Bluhm scored six points, and Farlow grabbed 11 rebounds.
Kelsey Carr powered Burris with 14 points.

High Rollers win
BERNE — The Jay County High Rollers high school bowling team rallied in the second game Saturday for an 11-9 victory over Bluffton.
Trailing 8-2 after the first game, the High Rollers won four of five individual games in the second and took the team game to eke out the two-point win.
Jacob Coy earned a pair of points for Jay County, rolling a 215 first game en route to a 406 series. Richie Carducci also scored two points with a 179 in the first game and a 176 in the second.
Other wins in game two came from Lee Mock with a 182 and Colby Cline with a 176.


FR freshmen win
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery High School’s freshman boys basketball team defeated the Spencerville Bearcats 35-25 Saturday. The freshman girls lost 26-23 to Wayne Trace.
Kent Retz led the Tribe boys in their season opener with 12 points. Jacob Muhlenkamp added eight points and 10 rebounds.
Jackie Fullenkamp totaled 10 points for the FRHS girls (0-2). Sierra Pugh and Lexi Schmitz each finished with five points.

Three from JC win
DUNKIRK — Three Jay County competitors finished first or second Saturday at the Dunkirk Elks Hoopshoot Contest.
Allison Jobe was the lone Jay County champion as the Pennville Elementary School student won the 8-9-year-old girls division. Lillian Rogers (West Jay Middle School) was the runner-up in the 12-13-year-old girls division, and Mason Cochran (WJMS) finished second in the 12-13-year-old boys division.
Other first- and second-place finishers were Jacob Muncey, Adam Haynes and Hannah Burke of Delta Middle School, Josh Bryan, Cade Brown and Abby Scroggins of Royerton Elementary and Dalin Case, Lacey Herron and Sami Herron of Albany Elementary.[[In-content Ad]]
