OSSIAN — The Starfires headed into Tuesday’s game giving up an average of 64.7 points per game. Norwell scored nearly that many in the second half.
South Adams High School’s boys basketball team dropped its 14th straight game, giving up 63 points after the intermission in a 110-47 loss to the host Knights.
The Starfires (2-14) trailed by five after the opening period before getting outscored 28-4 in the second quarter. They allowed 36 third-quarter points and went on to give up more points than they had in any game in the last two decades.
Josh VanMeter totaled 28 points, seven rebounds and five assists for Norwell (12-5), which had lost back-to-back games to Columbia City and Homestead. Cam Denney had 20 points and 18 rebounds.
Chase Mosser’s 20 points and six rebounds were both team highs for South Adams.
The Starfires dropped the junior varsity game 55-25.

Chief grapplers win
East Jay Middle School’s wrestling team scored a 52-34 victory Tuesday over the visiting Delta Eagles.
Kaimen Sanders (95), Daniel Ostrowski (125), Tyler Leonhard (152), Jacob Ferguson (175) and Austin Harter (HWT) led the Chiefs as they each won their matches with pins. Davis Anderson (85) turned in a 16-2 major decision victory.
Ivan Hemmelgarn (110) and Gaven Hare (160) each added wins by decision.


Eagles top Wes-Del
GASTON — The West Jay wrestling team earned all of its six wins with pins on Tuesday for a 60-34 victory over the host Wes-Del Warriors.
Tyler Lowe (145) came up with the quickest pin for the Eagles as he finished his match in 35 seconds. Ryan Hough (85) was close behind with a pin in 42 seconds.
Also adding pins for West Jay were Malcolm McIntire (80), Gavin Corwin (95), Logan Drumm (105) and Mitchell Ferguson (110).

EJ 6th grade rolls
GAS CITY — East Jay’s sixth grade girls basketball team dominated host R.J. Baskett for a 39-13 victory on Monday.
Kendra Muhlenkamp scored 12 points to lead the Chiefs, who improved to 11-1. Maggie Pryor added eight points.
East Jay won the B team game 39-12 with Gwen Omstead scoring a game-high 14 points.
