SAHS golfers top New Haven

GENEVA — The Starfires finished their home schedule with a victory.
South Adams High School’s girls golf team topped the New Haven Bulldogs 212-235 Tuesday in its final match of the season at Golf Club of the Limberlost.
Abbie Fisher had three of the five pars on the evening for the Starfires as she played even on the 375-yard, par-5 second hole, the 335-yard, par-4 fourth and the 90-yard, par-3 ninth. She also had one bogey on the way to leading SAHS with a 50.
Kori Thompson of New Haven had a 44 to earn medalist honors.
Sam Schwartz had three bogeys as she followed Fisher for South Adams (9-6) with a 52, and Alaina Johnston finished with a par and three bogeys for a 54.
Kelli Lehman shot 56 to complete the team score, and Maddie Graber finished with a 61.
Vikings top netters
HUNTINGTON — The South Adams boys tennis team picked up two three-set wins, but still fell 3-2 Tuesday to the host Huntington North Vikings.
The Starfires earned marathon doubles wins, with Dexter Miller and Jared Rife fighting off Dylan Baumgartner and Andrew Smith 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-2) at No. 1. Landon Lehman and Dylan Pierce beat Wyatt Nave and Cameron Buzzard 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 at No. 2.
In singles action, Brayden Myers fell 6-1, 7-5 to Aaron Gilmore at No. 1.
Cole Myers lost 6-0, 6-1 to Tommy Bolinger at No. 2, and Blake Baumer suffered a shutout defeat to Matt Sieberns at No. 3.
Gridders get split
MONROEVILLE — South Adams Middle School’s seventh grade football team won 14-0 Tuesday over the host Heritage Patriots. The eighth graders lost 24-16.
Joe Stuber led the win for the SAMS seventh graders (2-1, 1-1 Allen County Athletic Conference), scoring on an 18-yard run in the first quarter and a 15-yard run in the fourth. Isaiah Baumgartner had nine tackles, two forced fumbles and an interception.
J.D. Groh scored both touchdowns for the eighth graders (2-1, 1-1 ACAC) on runs of 45 and 14 yards. Corbin Swygart and Corbin Blomeke each made seven tackles.[[In-content Ad]]
