SAHS places 3rd in ACAC

GARRETT — The South Adams High School boys track team won four events in finishing third Friday with 105 points at the Allen County Athletic Conference Championships. The host Railroaders won the title with 121 points, and Leo was second with 112.
The Starfire girls also placed third with 89.5 points in the eight-team field. Leo (169.5) ran away with the title while Garrett (97) finished second.
SAHS was strong in the boys distance races, with Eric Isch winning the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 39.2 seconds and Evan Liechty taking third in 4:44. The runners swapped spots in the 3,200 run with Liechty first in 10:20 and Isch third with a time of 10:33.
Joel Schmidt added another victory by just one hundredth of a second over Gage Minniear of Southern Wells in 15.69 in the 100 hurdles. Tim Lehman, Logan Steiner, Brody Shane and Isch teamed to win the 4x800 relay in 8:34.
Hannah Moore was second for the girls team in both the 1,600 run (5:38) and the 3,200 run (12:30).

FR baseball falls
NEW BREMEN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s baseball team dropped its season finale Friday 13-3 to the New Bremen Cardinals.
Ryan Gaerke took the loss, giving up eight runs — seven earned — on seven hits and five walks in three innings. New Bremen scored multiple runs in every inning after the first.
Chad Schroer led the Tribe with a single, a run and two RBIs. Gaerke added a hit and a run.
The Indians finished 2-16 overall and 0-8 in the Midwest Athletic Conference, marking their third straight year without a league victory.

Gillette lifts Loy
Haley Gillette came up big in the final inning Saturday to lead Loy Real Estate and Auction to a 4-3 Portland Junior League Rookie softball victory over Persimmon Ridge.
Persimmon Ridge defeated Portland Optimist 7-0 Friday.
And in Rookie baseball Friday Jay County Monuments top Barnett’s Auto Parts 13-8.
Gillette finished with three hits, the last of which was a two-out, RBI double in the top of the fifth inning that gave Loy a two-run lead. Persimmon Ridge could manage only one run in the bottom for the final margin.
Riley Brewster had three hits, a run and an RBI for Loy. On Friday Justice Day went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and a run to lead Persimmon Ridge, and Landon Grimes paced Monuments with five hits, five RBIs and two runs.[[In-content Ad]]
