SAHS rallies again (04/29/05)
Local roundup
BERNE — As long as the Starfires have an at-bat remaining, no lead is safe.
For the second straight night Thursday the South Adams softball team staged a seventh-inning rally, this time earning a 5-4 victory over the Bluffton Tigers.
The Starfires (7-4, 4-2 Allen County Athletic Conference) trailed 4-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning before finding the magic again with three runs to take the win. They also came back with four seventh-inning runs Wednesday in a 5-4 win over Adams Central.
Amber Melick continued to do it all for the Starfires.
On the offensive side, she ripped an RBI double and scored a run. On the mound the freshman earned her seventh win, allowing four runs — three earned — on six hits. She struck out seven.
Kayla Coblentz scored twice for the Starfires, who had just two hits but took advantage of a pair of errors by Bluffton (4-6). Shante Miller had the only other hit, and Jordan Lehman had an RBI.
Jets blank baseball
MONROE — Justin Caffee took another tough loss Thursday, allowing just one earned run as the South Adams baseball team fell 3-0 to the Adams Central Jets.
Adams Central scored twice in the third inning, and once in the sixth.
Caffee went the distance, giving up five hits as two of the three runs against him were unearned. He struck out five and walked one.
The Starfires managed just three hits, one each from Rich Kaup, Lukas Baumgartner and Mike Farris.
