SAHS rolls to win at Norwell

OSSIAN — The Starfires are 2-for-2.
The South Adams High School boys cross country team put together another dominant effort Saturday, following up its win at the Bellmont Invitational by taking the title at the Bi-County Conditioner.
SAHS took four of the top six positions and posted a team time of 1 hour, 37 minutes, 29.8 seconds to win the four-team event at Norwell by nearly six minutes over Bellmont (1:43:16).
The Starfire girls were third out of six teams at 2:04:28. Bellmont won in 1:58:6.
Brody Shane and Evan Liechty teamed to lead the South Adams boys at the meet, in which each runner completes a one-mile circuit three times in a two-person relay format. They posted a winning time of 31:43.3 on the six-mile course.
Joel Hawbaker and Sawyer Miller were fourth in 32:36.3, and Daniel Velasco and Simon Sprunger placed fifth at 33:10.2.
Kristen Muselman and Aleesha Goodwin turned in the top time for the Starfire girls in 39:46.4. Lauren Klaehn and Katelin Hawbaker (41:38) were eighth, and Allison Amstutz and Sydne Zuber (43:03) finished 12th.

Stars get split
FORT WAYNE — The Starfires topped the host Fort Wayne North Side Redskins 4-1 Saturday, but fell 4-1 to the Fort Wayne South Side Archers.

No. 1 singles player Brayden Myers finished off a singles sweep for South Adams against North Side, rallying from a first-set defeat to top Brett Jones 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. Dexter Miller won 6-2, 6-3 over Mike Burzon at No. 2 singles, and Blake Baumer defeated Maung Thawani 7-6, 6-0 at No. 3.
Cole Myers and Dylan Pierce won their No. 2 doubles match in a super tiebreaker, beating Travis Good and Nate Kaiser 6-2, 4-6 (10-3).
Pierce and Myers also earned the lone Starfire victory against South Side, defeating Nick Thomas and Jaren Wilt 6-1, 6-0.

Heiser places 9th
MONTPELIER — Jamie Heiser was the only local driver to finish in the top 10 of a feature race Saturday at Montpelier Motor Speedway.
Heiser, Fort Recovery, turned in a ninth-place finish in the Super Streets race. Portland’s Richard Williams and Jeff Baldauf followed in 14th and 15th respectively.
Brian Baldauf, also of Portland, was 16th in the Thunder Cars feature. Travis Nichols, Portland, was seventh in the Thunder Cars B main race.
