SAHS runners beat Wapahani, UC

BERNE - Roman Smith and Mark Farris led the South Adams High School boys track team while the girls used a balanced effort Thursday as both scored a pair of wins.

The SAHS boys, getting two wins apiece from Smith and Farris, scored 86 points to finish ahead of visiting Wapahani (36) and Union City (34). Six different Starfire girls each won one event to post 85 points and defeated Wapahani (50) and Union City (19).

Smith won the hurdle events for the South Adams boys with times of 16.7 seconds in the 110-meter race and 42.2 in the 300. Farris took the 100 dash in 11.2, and the 200 dash in 22.9.

Other winners were Chaise Moore in the shot put (41 feet, 8 inches) and Chris Stutzman in the 400 dash (56.5).

The SAHS girls swept the sprints with Bailee Green first in the 100 dash (13.4), Kinsey Lengerich in the 200 (28.2) and Chelsey Nevil in the 400 (1:08.3). Kylie Cisney was first in the 100 hurdles (17.3), Hannah Moore won the 1,600 run (6:12) and Jaci Liechty took the long jump (13 feet, 4 inches).

FR baseball loses

FORT RECOVERY - A 3-1 lead slipped away Friday as the Celina Bulldogs scored seven times in the top of the seventh inning to take an 8-3 victory over Fort Recovery.

The Indians (3-2) broke a tied in with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning only to have the game slip away. Greg Kahlig took the loss, allowing eight runs on nine hits and six walks in 6 2/3 innings.

Kahlig had one of the Tribe's two extra-base hits, a double, and drove in a run. Frank Thien also had a double, and A.J. Backs added a single and an RBI.

Tribe girls are 2nd

FORT RECOVERY - Holly Brunswick and Tina Roessner combined for five wins Thursday as the Fort Recovery girls track team finished second as hosts of a five-team meet.

The Indians put up 94 points, finishing behind Marion Local (158). Anna was third with 47, followed by Bradford (28) and New Knoxville (22).

The FRHS boys were last in the field with 18.5 points. Marion Local won with 146.

Brunswick put together yet another three-win meet, keyed by a couple of victories in the field events. She took the high jump by nearly a half-foot, clearing the bar at 5 feet even.

The sophomore was also first with a long jump of 15 feet, 7 inches. She added her third win the 100-meter hurdles in 16.9 seconds.

Roessner, a senior, picked up both of her victories in the long-distance races. She took the 1,600 run in 5-minutes, 49.6 seconds and the 3,200 run in 12:17.5.

The top effort for the boys team came from Shane Stein, who was third in the high jump at 5 feet, 6 inches.

JC JV baseball falls

Jay County managed just one hit in a 13-2, five-inning loss to the visiting Bellmont Braves.

Bellmont scored six times in the opening inning, and added five runs in the third. The Patriots (2-2) scored both of their runs in the fifth inning.

Jacob Coffman drove in both JCHS runs, and Anthony Robbins had the lone hit. Dusty Rodgers and Devin Conatser each scored once.

Ty Huntsman took the loss, allowing eight runs, none of which were earned, on three hits.
