SAHS runners stay unbeaten

MONROE - The South Adams High School track teams each improved to 4-0 Tuesday with wins over conference rivals.

The girls team racked up 81.5 points to defeat the Garrett Railroaders (61) and host Adams Central Jets. (10.5). The Starfire boys totaled 62 points with Adams Central and Garrett tied for second with 47.

Hannah Moore picked up another two victories for the SAHS girls, winning the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 50 seconds and the 3,200 run in 12:32. Bailee Green also earned a pair of wins with times of 13.1 seconds and 27.6 in the 100 and 200 dash races respectively.

Roman Smith was one of three Starfire boys to win two events with his victories in the 110 hurdles in 15.6 and the 300 hurdles in 42.8. Sam Amstutz took the long jump at 17 feet, 7 ½ inches and the 200 dash in 24.1, and Eric Isch was first in the 800 run at 2:15 and the 1,600 run with a time of 4:52.

Other individual wins for the girls team came from Grace Dobler in the 400 dash and Kristen Muselman in the 800 run.

Parkway tops Tribe

ROCKFORD, Ohio - The Parkway Panthers scored 13 times in the first three innings Tuesday as they handed the Fort Recovery baseball team its fourth straight defeat, 15-5 in five innings.

Ethan Schoenherr took the loss for the Tribe (1-4), which had seven errors. He gave up six runs - three earned - on two hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings.

Cody Fiely and Nathan Keller each finished with a single, a double and two runs in the game. A.J. Backs finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

SA offense runs wild

PONETO - A seven-run fourth inning erased an 8-3 deficit and the South Adams softball team picked up its first win of the year 17-11 Monday over the host Southern Wells Raiders.

Karen Bollenbacher went 4-for-5 with three doubles, three RBIs and two runs to lead the Starfires, who allowed six runs in the bottom of the third inning to fall behind. SAHS (1-1) bounced back with its big fourth inning and then added three runs in the fifth and four in the seventh as it racked up 18 hits.

Jennifer Miller had three hits, including a double, and three runs, Rosa Hilty totaled two hits, three runs and three RBIs and Tori Smith added three hits and two runs.

Lily Taing earned the win striking out two batters in 4 1/3 innings of relief. She allowed just one earned run on five hits and did not walk a batter.
