MONROE — Five runs in the sixth inning ended Thursday’s game early as the South Adams High School baseball team defeated the host Adams Central Flying Jets 12-0.
Taylor Smith picked up the win, his fifth, as the Starfires improved to 12-9 overall and 4-2 in the Allen County Athletic Conference.
Taylor LeFever and Gabe Sprunger each hit home runs in the victory. LeFever also had a double, and Dustin Wanner added a double as well.
Cards defeat Fort
FORT RECOVERY — The New Bremen Cardinals scored in the top of the ninth inning Thursday and held the Fort Recovery softball team scoreless in the bottom of the frame to hand it a 5-4 defeat.
The Indians (9-14, 2-5 Midwest Athletic Conference) fell behind 3-0 before pulling even with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Both teams scored once in the fifth and remained tied until the Cardinals (9-10, 3-2 MAC) took the game in the ninth.
Andi Sutter allowed five runs — three earned — on 12 hits in suffering the loss. She struck out six batters and walked one.
Taylor Guggenbiller hit a three-run home run to lead the Tribe. Shelby Brunswick was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Olivia Thien had two hits, including a double, and a run.

MONROE — South Adams’ softball team dropped a doubleheader — 7-1 and 10-0 in five innings — on Thursday to the host Adams Central Flying Jets.
Lily Taing suffered the loss in the opener, giving up seven runs — four earned — on eight hits. Reba Morehouse went three innings, allowing six runs — four earned — on five hits and five walks in the game-two defeat.
Jennifer Miller had a double in each game for the Starfires, and Mykala Coblentz singled in both games and scored the lone run in game one. Also picking up a hit in each game were Logan Chandler and Rachel Hirschy.
Tribe JV tops Bremen
NEW BREMEN, Ohio — The Fort Recovery junior varsity softball team never trailed Thursday in a 14-10 victory over the New Bremen Cardinals.
Melissa Lochtefeld notched three hits, including a double, for the Indians and scored three times. The catcher also picked off a runner at third base to end the game.
Maleia Fullenkamp went 3-for-4 with a triple and a run for FRHS, which finished with 10 hits and 12 walks. Jackie Fullenkamp scored three times, and Kendra Stammen and Beca Tobe added two runs apiece.
Tobe earned the win as she struck out six while giving up eight hits and seven walks. Half of the 10 runs against her were unearned.
