SAHS stops losing streak

BERNE — The Randolph County part of the schedule has been good to the Starfires.
The South Adams High School girls tennis team halted an 11-match losing streak Wednesday with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Union City Indians. Its only other win this year, in the season opener, came against Winchester.
Lindsey Graber and Kassy Potts continued their hot streak with their seventh straight victory at No. 1 doubles, shutting out Mikayla Alexander and Taylor Anderson 6-0, 6-0. They are now 11-2 this season.
Abbie Campbell and Holly Taylor also turned in a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles over Emily Smith and Belen Valencia. Mallory Eicher rallied from an opening-set loss at No. 3 singles to defeat Ashley Rismiller 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, and Alex Fox won at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-4 over Ashley Miller.
Aine O’Donnell suffered a 6-1, 6-1 defeat to India Van Camp in the No. 1 singles match.
South Adams’ junior varsity team won 4-0 with three victories coming by shutout.

Fort softball falls
MINSTER, Ohio — The Indians gave up six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday in an 11-7 loss to the Minster Wildcats.
Andi Sutter took the loss for Fort Recovery, which slipped to 8-10 overall and 1-3 in the Midwest Athletic Conference. She allowed 10 hits and six walks in six innings.
Kendra Brunswick finished with two hits, two RBIs and a run for the Indians, and Shelby Brunswick had two hits, including a triple, and a run. Olivia Schwieterman singled and scored twice, and her sister, Janelle, went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
The victory was Minster’s first in league play as the team is now 5-8 overall and 1-3 in the MAC.

SH blanks Tribe
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery baseball team remains winless in the Midwest Athletic Conference after falling 20-0 Wednesday to the St. Henry Redskins in five innings.
Hayden Pottkotter took the loss, allowing seven runs — five earned — on three hits and three walks in just one-third of an inning. St. Henry (8-8, 2-4 MAC) scored seven times in each of the first two frames and five times in the third.
Chad Schroer and Kent Retz had the lone hits for the Indians (2-12, 0-4 MAC).

SAMS track loses
MONROE — South Adams’ middle school track teams each fell to the host Adams Central Jets Tuesday. The girls lost 74-35 while the boys suffered a 78-31 defeat.
Alaina Johnston won the 400-meter dash for the girls team in 1 minute, 8 seconds, and Carolina Kloepper was first in the 200 dash in 31.2. Lauren Smith took the shot put with a toss of 24 feet, 4 inches.
Conner Sealscott finished first in the boys discus at 108 feet, 4 inches, and Derek Wanner took the high jump at 5 feet, 1 inch. Matt Nussbaum was first in the 100 hurdles with a time of 19.2, and Josh Crider won the 200 hurdles in 33.3.[[In-content Ad]]
