SAHS streak ends against Woodlan (02/12/07)

BERNE - The streak came to an end Saturday for South Adams.
The Starfire boys basketball team was riding a four-game winning streak, but stumbled in the fourth quarter of a 58-51 loss to the Woodlan Warriors.
South Adams (8-7) fell behind by eight after the opening quarter, but rallied back as it limited the Warriors to just a single 3-pointer in the second period. It was up 39-37 going into the final eight minutes, but gave up 21 points in the final quarter of the defeat.
Woodlan, which hit 9-of-11 free throws in the fourth quarter, got a game-high 17 points from Josh Gray. Jason Spindler added nine points, and Braden Hines and Colin Molsait each added eight.
Andrew Caffee's 15 points led a group of three Starfires in double figures. Ethan Sharp added 11 points, and Daniel Bollenbacher scored 10.
Jay thumps Indians
Jay County's freshman boys basketball team scored more points in the first half than Fort Recovery did for the game Saturday in a 46-19 victory.
Eric Homan racked up 15 points for the Patriots (13-5), who limited Fort Recovery to two first-half field goals for a 23-5 lead. Taylor Farmer hit a couple of 3-pointers and followed Homan with 12 points.
Alan Lennartz was the high scorer for the Indians (4-9) with seven points to go along with a team-high four rebounds. Craig Tobe notched five points.
Tribe girls advance
Each of Fort Recovery's middle school girls basketball teams advanced Saturday in their respective Midwest Athletic Conference tournaments.
The Indian eighth graders moved to the semifinal round at Versailles with a 37-26 victory over the Marion Local Flyers. The seventh grade team, playing on its home floor, defeated the Coldwater Cavaliers 30-20 for its semifinal berth.
Kendra Brunswick had a big game for the Fort Recovery eighth graders (9-4), who trailed by four after the opening quarter but outscored Marion Local 29-14 the rest of the way. She finished with 16 points and six rebounds.
Nicole Dilworth added 11 points, and Olivia Thien finished with eight boards.
Kelly Nietfeld led the seventh grade Indians to victory with her 13 points. Karissa Will scored six points, and Olivia Schwieterman followed with five.

The Fort Recovery eighth grade boys basketball team dropped out of the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament at Coldwater Saturday with a 53-40 loss to the Minster Wildcats. The seventh graders fell at Celina by a 35-20 score to the host Bulldogs.
Craig Fortkamp scored 12 points to pace the Indian eighth graders, who finished at 5-11. Nate Bihn and Shane Brunswick each finished with nine points.
Jared Kahlig totaled nine points for the Fort Recovery seventh grade team (3-12). Jacob Whitacre added five points.[[In-content Ad]]
