BERNE — South Adams High School’s swim teams continued their strong seasons Tuesday with a couple of wins over the visiting Huntington North Vikings.
The boys team improved to 7-3 with a 128-55 victory led by Calbe Wurster and Jacob Werst. And Erika Waugh turned in two first-place efforts for the girls team, which won 102-84 to run its record to 8-4.
Wurster took the top spot in the 200 freestyle in 2 minutes, 1.76 seconds and also won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.02. Werst’s victories came in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.65 and the 200 individual medley in 2:27.48.
Waugh posted top times of 2:06.97 in the 200 freestyle and 5:35.65 in the 500 freestyle. Other wins for South Adams came from Kara DeLong, Cole Farlow and Cory Sank.
Tribe rallies in OT
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team rallied for a 25-21 overtime win Tuesday over the Minster Wildcats. The eighth graders lost 40-9.
Trisha Thien finished with five points for the Indian seventh graders, who outscored Minster 5-1 in overtime. Kirsten Jutte, Mikayla Post and Caitlyn Huelskamp each added four points.
Katie Braun scored three points for the eighth grade team.
Four lead divisions
MUNCIE — Alex Bader won all five of her events Sunday as she, Lillie Clemmons, Ashley Mark and Anne Vormohr of the Jay County Winter Swim Team all earned high-point honors to lead the team to a runner-up finish at the Ball State University Sprint Invitational.
Bader dominated the 11-year-old events, winning the 50-yard freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly as well as the 200 individual medley. Clemmons, Mark and Vormohr all added three wins apiece as they led the 8-and-younger, 12-year-old and 13-and-older division respectively.
Cassidy Martin and Sophie Bader also picked up victories for Jay County. Adding top-three finishes were Erica Hathaway, Leah Hummel, James Keen, Ashley LeFever, Sydney Mathias, Kearsten Myers, Gavin Thobe, Nolan Thobe and Sok Vormohr.[[In-content Ad]]
