SAHS topples Tigers

BLUFFTON — Mark Muselman needed a pair of tiebreakers, but he was able to take both as he led the South Adams High School boys tennis team to a 3-2 win Thursday over the Bluffton Tigers.
Muselman and Brendan Baumgartner were nearly even throughout their No. 3 singles match, but Muselman came up big when he needed to pick up a 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5) victory. Alex Huber added a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, and the No. 2 doubles team of Ian Frank and Derek Schwartz triumphed 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Scott Hoeppner fell 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, and Kegan Sprunger and Reid Zurcher lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.
Brayden Myers turned in a 6-0 victory in junior varsity action at No. 3 singles, but the Starfires lost 6-4.

Star golfers fall
BLUFFTON — The host Norwell Knights handed the South Adams girls golf team a 180-232 defeat Thursday.
Abbie Fisher had two pars and two bogies at Timber Ridge Golf Club to lead the Starfires with a 52.
Kristen Springer of Norwell earned medalist honors with a 40.
Kristen Lehman had a 58 for SAHS, Kristal All shot 56 and Samantha Schwartz added a 66. Adrienne Pursley finished at 74.

SA soccer shut out
BERNE — South Adams’ girls soccer team is still looking for its first win after a 9-0 loss at home Thursday to the Fort Wayne South Side Archers.
Brianna Nevil had seven saves in the defeat, and Rachel Simon took four shots on goal for the Starfires.
Kaitlyn Hayes led South Side with three goals.

Fort gridders win
NEW BREMEN, Ohio — The Fort Recovery Middle School football teams shut down the New Bremen Cardinals’ offense in a couple of wins Thursday. The eighth graders rolled to a 36-0 victory, and the seventh grade squad posted a 6-0 win.
Seth Riegle scored on touchdown runs of 36 and 28 yards for the FRHS eighth graders, who picked up their first win. Cole Hull caught a 17-yard TD pass from Mitch Stammen and added an 18-yard scoring run, and Ryan Muhlenkamp had a 24-yard TD run.
Kyle Schroer scored the only points of the seventh grade game on a 43-yard TD pass from Derian Sheffer. The Indians are now 2-1-1.[[In-content Ad]]
