THREE INJURED

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident on Friday at 11:23 a.m. in Jefferson Township.

Felicia A. Teeter, 22, 270 E. Liberty St., Pennville, Jeffery L. Shultz, 13, 240 E. Second St., Pennville, and Randal A. Herrison, 22, 8352 West 200 South, Dunkirk were transported by Jay County Emergency Medical Services for their injuries.

Teeter, the driver, was treated for lower arm pain. Harrison, a passenger in Teeter’s van was treated for a lower leg contusion and Shultz, also a passenger, was treated for a head contusion.

Teeter told Jay County police that she was driving northwest bound on Como Road at the intersection of Ind. 67. She said that she thought she could make it across Ind. 67 after seeing a 1998 Ford Explorer, driven by Mary E. Sargent, 23, 120 Honeysuckle Lane, Portland. The two vehicles collided causing Teeter’s 1988 Ford Van to spin into two posts on the east side of Ind. 67. Sargent’s sport utility vehicle traveled into the parking lot of Como Service and came to rest almost colliding with the gas pumps and the building, according to the police report.

Sargent was driving southwest on Ind. 67 when the collision occurred.

Damage to the van Teeter was driving, registered to David L. Hicks, 509 W. High St., Portland, and the Sargent’s SUV, also registered to Gary Price, same address as driver was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.

BURGLARIES REPORTED

Jay County police are investigating a burglary at a rural Portland residence reported on Friday at approximately 10 a.m.

Dale Rowles, 3618 West 200 North, told police that a television, stereo, five guns and ammunition were taken sometime between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Friday.

No value was provided for the stolen items.

Also Friday at 8:15 a.m. Jay County police received a report of seven guns and a bow taken from a rural Pennville man’s residence.

Tim Geesaman, 10865 W. Balbec Road, told police that sometime between sometime Thursday night or Friday morning.

A window was broken to gain access into the home.

A value of these missing weapons was not provided by police.

MAILBOX VANDALISM

A rural Portland man reported on Friday morning that his mailbox was damaged overnight.

John Wetendorf, 3505 W. Division Road, told Jay County police that his mailbox was damaged.[[In-content Ad]]
