COUNTY ACCIDENTS
A vehicle driven by a Rio Grand City, Texas, woman collided with a deer Friday at 5:55 p.m. in Penn Township.
Lilia Diaz Rivera, 50, told Jay County police she was westbound on Ind. 18, roughly a half-mile west of Ind. I, when she was unable to avoid a deer that entered the roadway.
Damage to her 1998 Ford F-150 was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Vehicles driven by two Portland men collided Friday at 10 a.m. in Jackson Township.
Christopher A. Fiers, 1237 N. U.S. 27, told police he was northbound on county road 250 West, just south of county road 400 North, when a southbound vehicle, driven by Glen Wilhelm Jr., 70, 510 W. Water St., veered left of center and sideswiped his 1990 Cadillac Deville.
Wilhelm told police he didn’t realize the two vehicles had collided until he stopped. Wilhelm was driving a 1986 Chevrolet Celebrity.
Damage to both vehicles was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
FORT ACCIDENT
A vehicle driven by a Fort Recovery woman collided with a utility pole Thursday at 12:55 p.m. in Fort Recovery.
Anna M. Steinbrunner, 85, 2646 W. Sawmill Rd., told Fort Recovery Police she was westbound on Boundary Street and there was a wasp in her car. As she attempted to roll down her window to let the insect out, her car traveled off the south side of the road an dcollided with a pole.
Steinbrunner was driving a 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.
The damage to her car was characterized by police as disabling.
THEFT
A Portland man was arrested for misdemeanor theft Thursday after police received a report that he stole batteries from Dollar General.
Employees of the Portland business, located at 220 W. Lincoln St., reported the theft at 1:18 p.m. on Thursday.
Police pulled over the man after the Dollar General employees provided police with a description of the vehicle. Officers found the batteries that was reported stolen in the man’s vehicle. He was arrested and taken to the Jay County Jail after he could not produce a receipt for the batteries.
FLUSHING HYDRANTS
The town of Ridgeville will be flushing hydrants on Aug. 5, 6 and 7. Residents could experience rusty water.
