Sentenced
A Portland woman was sentenced Thursday in Jay Circuit Court for class C felony forgery.
Mindy McCowan, 22, was sentenced to four years in the Jay County Jail with three and a half years suspended.
She also was placed on probation for three and a half years.
Three additional counts of class D felony forgery were dismissed.
McCowan was arrested on June 30, 2003 by Portland police after she forged checks in 2002 belonging to a Portland woman.
Arrested
A Redkey man was arrested early Friday by Portland police for class D felony driving while intoxicated.
The charge against Michael Holton, 22, 102 W. High St., was enhanced to a felony because Holton had a previous DWI conviction within the last five years.
As of later this morning he was being held at the Jay County Jail on $3,000 bond.
Seeking
The Jay County office of the Farm Service Agency is currently seeking nominations for 2003 county committee elections.
Candidates are needed from Richland, Jefferson, Pike and Madison townships.
Nomination forms can be obtained from the Jay County FSA office at 1331 West Ind. 67, Portland. For more information call (260) 726-4888.
Recycling
The Jay County Solid Waste District will have two recycling trailers in service today.
The West Jay Optimist Club will staff a trailer at Ludwig’s in Dunkirk, and the Jay County 4-H Shooting Sports group will staff a trailer at Lo-Bill’s in Portland.
Both trailers will be staffed from 9 a.m. to noon.
Rescheduled
Redkey Town Council’s special meeting scheduled for today at 11 a.m. will be held on Monday, Aug. 25 at 3 p.m.
Decision
Portland City Council members are scheduled to vote on final approval of the 2004 budget at the Monday, Aug. 25 meeting.
The council will meet at 7 p.m. in city hall.
Weather
The weather for the biggest day of the 38th annual Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Show should be just about perfect.
Highs today under sunny skies will be in the low 80s with relatively low humidity and a cooling north breeze at 10 mph.
Lows tonight will dip into the upper 50s with light east winds.
Sunday should be a carbon copy, with highs in the low 80s under mostly sunny skies.
The low Sunday night will also be in the upper 50s.
Monday should be dry with temperatures in the mid 80s. A chance of showers or storms returns on Tuesday with temperatures in the 80s.
