Insurance for crops not covered by multi-peril crop insurance is available through local offices of the United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency.
Non-insured Assistance Program (NAP) insurance may be purchased for $100 per crop per county, or $300 per county, not to exceed $900 in all counties in which you are farming.
Crop acreage must be reported and certify or provide production records. Payments will be based on a 50 percent loss and 55 percent of the established average market price.
Closing dates for 2004 NAP coverage: Alfalfa, grass, mixed forages and herbs, Sept. 30, 2003; Christmas trees, Sept. 1, 2003; Apples, blueberries, cherries, grapes, peaches and pears, Nov. 20, 2003; Honey, Jan. 2, 2004; and all other crops, March 15, 2004.

Need blood
The American Red Cross is looking for help to fill the pressing need for blood.
A community bloodmobile visit is set for Monday, Sept. 29, from noon to 6 p.m. at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Fort Recovery.
The Red Cross needs to collect about 450 units of blood each day to meet regional patient needs. The need is continuous, and there is no substitute for human blood.
Potential donors must be at least 17 years old, must weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good general help. Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are taken.

A Jay County Solid Waste District recycling trailer will be located in the Lo-Bill’s parking lot in Portland from 9 a.m. to noon today. It will be staffed by Cub Scout Pack 3202.

Florence E. Clark, 97, St. Henry, Ohio, a former resident of Fort Recovery.
