Recycling

The Jay County Solid Waste District will have two recycling trailers out today.

One trailer will be in the Ludwig’s parking lot in Dunkirk from 9 a.m. to noon.

There also will be a trailer in the LoBill Foods parking lot in Portland from 9 a.m. to noon.

Joining

A Portland man entered what is now a three-way race Friday for the Republican nomination for Jay County coroner.

Kip VanSkyock, 1009 Blaine Pike, joined incumbent Brad Myers and Paulette Wagner in seeking his party’s nomination.

On the Democratic side, only Democrat Mark Barnett is running so far.

The deadline to file for the primary and Jay School Board election is Friday, Feb. 20 at noon.

Bargaining

The Jay School Board will meet in executive session at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, at the administrative office building to discuss collective bargaining.

44 percent

Arts Place announced this week that it has raised more than $146,000 in private contributions toward its annual campaign goal of $330,000.

“We are encouraged by the early results of the campaign,” Arts Place board first vice president and campaign chair Leslie Newton said.

The annual campaign supports the operations and programs of Arts Place.

Parking

The Portland City Council is scheduled to continue discussion of parking on Pleasant Street at its Feb. 16 meeting.

Council members also are set to vote on a resolution to expand participation in the Public Employees’ Retirement Fund.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the meeting room at the Portland Fire Station, 1616 N. Franklin St.

New dates

Due to weather-related school closings, the parent-teacher conferences at East Jay and West Jay Middle schools and Jay County High School will be held Thursday, Feb. 26. The middle school events will run from 3:30 to 7 p.m. in the school gyms.

Also, the third-cycle grading period for these schools has been extended to Friday, April 2.

Today will be mostly sunny, then partly cloudy with a chance of flurries in the afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 30s. Partly cloudy skies are expected tonight, and the there is a chance of flurries in the evening. Lows will be near 12.

Sunday will see mostly sunny skies, but it will be cooler with highs near 20.
