Recycling
The Jay County Solid Waste District will have two recycling trailers out today.
One trailer will be in the LoBill Foods parking lot in Portland from 9 a.m. to noon. Members of Jay County 4-H Shooting Sports will staff this trailer.
The other trailer will be in the Ludwig’s parking lot in Dunkirk from 9 a.m. to noon. This trailer will be staffed by West Jay Optimist Club members.
Demolishing
A familiar building near the Jay Community Center and the Portland Post Office is coming down Monday morning.
Jason Bullard, who owns the former Cheeseman building located on East Water Street behind the post office and north of the community center, said Thursday that demolition of the steel building will begin between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Monday.
Bullard said he plans to build a small ice cream shop on the lot.
Meeting
Portland City Council members will continue discussion of restricting parking on Pleasant Street at their Monday meeting.
The council also will be discuss a $740,000 Indiana Department of Transportation grant awarded to the city to fund a street and utility improvement project on Lincoln Street.
Also Monday, council members will hear a request from Waste Management representative Rick Davis to change the city’s recycling collection schedule to three days a week instead of the current five-day schedule.
The 7 p.m. meeting will be held in the meeting room in the Portland Fire Station, located on North Franklin Street.
Charged
A Geneva man faces a felony and two misdemeanor charges after a high-speed pursuit in Wells and Adams counties Wednesday evening.
Brandon L.S. Bercot posted a $7,000 bond and was released from the Wells County Jail.
He is charged with resisting law enforcement in a motor vehicle, a class D felony, along with misdemeanor charges of public intoxication and reckless driving.
Speeds in the chase reportedly reached 120 mph.

Look for mostly sunny skies and highs in the lower 50s today. Tonight will be mostly clear, and lows will be in the mid 30s.
