Falls asleep
A Fort Wayne woman was injured Friday in a head-on collision in Greene Township.
Nancy L. Weis, 51, 1729 S. Hadley Road, complained of chest pain and was flown from the scene to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was not listed in the hospital’s directory Friday night.
Brandy M. Craig, 19, 915 W. Votaw St., told Jay County police she was driving northeast on Ind. 67, north of county road 300 South, and fell asleep. The 2001 Ford Explorer she was driving crossed the centerline and collided with a 2010 Ford Ranger driven by Weis. Both vehicles went off the road and rolled. Weis was trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed by emergency personnel.
The 2:34 p.m. accident caused combined damage to the Explorer, registered to Harold D. Craig, same address, and the Ranger, registered to Emkay Inc. Trust, 805 W. Thorndale Ave., Itasca, Ill., that was estimated at $10,000 to $25,000.

Back pain
A Portland woman complained of back pain Friday after she was involved in a two-vehicle collision at Oakwood Mobile Home Park, 1237 North U.S. 27, Portland.
Brandie J. McCord, 30, 940 W. Water St., complained of pain following the 1 p.m. accident.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident, Michael D. McAbee, 23, 1237 North U.S. 27, Lot 115, Portland, told Jay County police he was driving north on a drive. As he attempted to maneuver a 90-degree curve, he lost control of his 1986 Jeep Commando on the ice. It struck The 1998 Dodge Durango driven by McCord.
Police estimated combined damage to the Jeep and the Dodge, registered to Phillip McCord, Portland, at $2,500 to $5,000.

Backing accident
A vehicle driven by a Muncie man collided with a truck driven by a rural Portland man on Morton Street in Portland on Friday.
Jarrod K. Case, 29, 2510 W. Ethel Ave., Muncie, told Portland police he was backing out of the parking lot of Pier Mac Plastics onto Morton Street and failed to see Ryan D. Blalock, 32, 2832 East Treaty Line Road, driving south on Morton Street. The vehicles collided near Pearl Street.
Combined damage to the 2003 Ford, registered to Cintas Service Transportation, 601 E. Main St., Muncie, and the 1990 Dodge Dakota, driven by Blalock, which is registered to Dale K. Wetz, 615 N. Ship St., Portland, was estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.

Sideswipe accident
A 2006 Ford truck driven by a Farmland woman sideswiped a parked car in the parking lot of a Portland factory on Friday.
Sally A. Strouse, 55, 704 N. Pursley St., told Portland police she was turning right out of a parking space at Tyson Mexican Original, 1355 Tyson Road, and sideswiped at 1999 Pontiac Bonneville parked next to her.
The accident occurred at 12:54 p.m. and caused combined damage to the truck and the car, registered to Christina M. Wood, 348 Emerald Drive, Union City, that was estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.

Slides, hits van
A Portland woman told police she slid on the ice, overcorrected her steering and hit a parked van.

Megan J. Jinez, 22, 908 N. Franklin St., said she was driving east on Walnut Street, east of Middle Street in Portland, and drove onto a patch of ice. Her 1998 Chevrolet Blazer began to slide. She tried to regain control of the vehicle, but overcorrected. The SUV continued to slide and struck a 1997 Dodge Caravan parked in front of a residence at 611 W. Walnut St.
The Dodge is registered to Marvin R. McBride, 611 W. Walnut St. Combined damage to the vehicles was estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.
The accident occurred at 7:50 a.m. and was investigated by Portland police.

Appliances stolen
A rural Portland woman told police that someone stole a television and a computer from her home.
Tracy Martin, 4836 East 400 South, told Jay County police she is in the process of moving out. She returned to the residence Friday and discovered that a 27-inch flat screen television with built-in DVD player and a computer were missing. The theft occurred between sometime on Sunday and before 4:04 p.m. Friday. The doors to the home were unlocked.
Total value of the stolen items was estimated about $1,400.

Annual meeting
Jay County Humane Society will have its annual meeting on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Jay County Public Library Community Room.

Getting computers?
Fort Recovery Schools officials plan to equip all freshmen with their own netbook computers next school year.
 The students would use the computers throughout their high school career, technology director John Jutte announced at a recent meeting of the school board. Each year, succeeding freshmen would be given netbooks.
The goal of the program is to place technology in the hands of students. If the netbook program is implemented, school officials project that two of the three high school computer labs will no longer be needed.

Recycling schedule
The Jay County Solid Waste District will have three recycling trailers today:
•Ludwig’s parking lot, Dunkirk, 9 a.m.-noon. West Jay Optimist Club.
•Marsh Hometown Market, Portland, 9 a.m.-noon. Judan Judo Club.
