80 years
A Portland man received a total of 80 years in prison for four felony charges.
J. Aaron Sanders, 37, was sentenced Feb. 21 on three counts on child molesting, a Class A felony and one county of bestiality, a Class D felony
On the first two counts of child molesting, he was sentenced to 40 years each, to be served concurrently.
On the third count of child molesting, he was sentenced to 40 years and 18 months for the count of bestiality. Those counts will be served concurrently.
The two blocks of sentences will be served consecutively, for an executed sentenced of 80 years. He was given credit for time served since Aug. 23 and was ordered to pay court costs of $165.
Sanders molested a child over a two-year period and also engaged in sexual acts with an animal.
Theft sentence
A Portland woman was sentenced in Jay Superior Court after pleading guilty to theft.
Kayla B. Phillips, 20, was sentenced Feb. 22 for theft, a Class D felony.
She was sentenced to 18 months in the Jay County Jail with all but 30 days suspended and 30 days credit for time served. She was assessed court costs of $165, was ordered to pay a Jay Superior Court Substance Abuse Program fee of $400 and was placed on probation for 17 months.
Phillips stole a diamond bracelet on Jan. 25.
Felonies dismissed
Two felony charges filed against a Dunkirk man were dismissed.
Scott Michael Irelan, 37, had two Class D felony charges of unlawful possession of a syringe and possession of a controlled substance dismissed in Jay Superior Court Feb. 22.
Shoplifting sentence
A Montpelier man was sentenced on a theft charge Feb. 21.
Dwight T. Kinder, 21, was sentenced in Jay Superior Court after pleading guilty to theft, a Class D felony.
He was sentenced to 18 months with all but 74 days suspended and 74 days credit for time served. He was assessed court costs of $165 and was placed on probation for 16 months.
Kinder attempted to steal merchandise from Walmart in Portland on Jan. 10.
Dealing sentence
A Portland man was sentenced on a felony drug dealing charge.
Kyle W. Bushman, 21, was sentenced Feb. 21 in Jay Circuit Court for dealing in a schedule II controlled substance, a Class B felony.
He was sentenced to 12 years in the Indiana Department of Correction with six years suspended and six years probation with credit for time served since Oct. 20. He was assessed court costs of $165, was ordered to pay a drug abuse prosecution, interdiction and correction fee of $200, was ordered to pay restitution of $432 to the Portland Police Department and the sentence will be served concurrently with any sentence handed down in a Jay Superior Court Case.
