Vera Money
Graveside services for Vera C. Money, 93, Winter Springs, Fla., a former Portland resident, will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery on the Jay-Randolph county line near county road 800 East.
Money died Thursday morning at her home.
Born May 20, 1910 in Randolph County, she was the daughter of Carl and Dora (Gettinger) Thornburg. She was married on March 27, 1937 to Dale C. Money, who died July 18, 1987.
A 1929 graduate of Jackson High School in Randolph County, she had lived in Portland until moving to Oregon in 1994. She had moved to Florida to be with her daughter in 2000.
While a resident of Portland, she served as a dental assistant for Drs. Milligan and Chitwood. She was also a former member of the Pleasant Hill Church on the Jay-Randolph county line and a charter member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Portland.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen D. Williams, Winter Springs; a sister, Helen Minnich, Hoagland; a sister-in-law, Margaret Thornburg, rural Union City; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Calling will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the Portland Chapel of the Williamson & Spencer Funeral Home.
Memorials may be directed to the Pleasant Hill Church memorial fund through envelopes available at the funeral home.
Catherine Gates
Services for Mary Catherine Gates, 85, 401 Canterbury Lane, Portland, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Portland Chapel of the Williamson & Spencer Funeral Home with Keith Pepple presiding.
Gates died Friday at her home.
Born May 6, 1918 in Jay County, she was the daughter of James and Hulda (Nelson) Burkey. She was married March 22, 1956 to Robert Gates, who survives.
She had worked for many years at Burkey’s Radiator Shop and Burkey’s Plumbing Shop.
Surviving in addition to her husband are several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in the Green Park Cemetery.
Calling will be held Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to State of the Heart Hospice, 130 W. Votaw St., Portland.
Dale Rust
Dale F. Rust, 77, 800 North, Ridgeville, died Thursday at Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie.
Born in Ridgeville on March, 11, 1926, he was the son of Warren and Vista (Main) Rust. He was a graduate of Ridgeville High School and had worked for several years as an operator and manager for Martin-Marietta Corp.
He was a member of the Winchester Moose Lodge.
Surviving are a son, Mike W. Rust, Ridgeville; a sister, Vista McCune, Ridgeville; a half-sister, Fern Miller, Muncie; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the M.J.S. Mortuaries Middleton Chapel, Ridgeville. Burial will be in Reitenour Cemetery, east of Ridgeville.
