Sarah Chaffins

Services for Sarah J. Chaffins, 18, 4451 East 1000 South, Geneva, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Sonlight Wesleyan Church, Bluffton, with Pastors James Matchett and Tom Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in Six Mile Cemetery, Bluffton.

She died Thursday in Marion General Hospital, Marion.

Born in Jefferson Township on Jan. 1, 1985 to Ken and Joyce M. (Hirschy) Chaffins, she was a 2003 South Adams High School graduate.

She was a member of Voice of Power Ministries and was active in the Powerhouse Youth Group at Sonlight Wesleyan Church, Bluffton. She was also a former Adams County 4-H member.

Surviving are her parents; a sister, Emily Chaffins, Geneva; a brother, Wesley Chaffins, Geneva; and her paternal grandmother, Gladys Chaffins, Bluffton.

Visitation is Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Downing and Glancy Funeral Home, Geneva, and Sunday two hours prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Voices of Power Ministries.

Donald Hines

Donald F. Hines, 76, Portland, the former superintendent of the Jay County Retirement Center, died Thursday afternoon in the AmeriCare Living Center, Portland.

Born in Portland on Jan. 14, 1927 to Clyde and Pauline (Mott) Hines, he graduated from Portland High School in 1947 and later graduated from Fort Wayne Barber College.

He was married Dec. 13, 1969 to Norma (Smith), who survives.

He and Norma were the superintendent and matron at the retirement center for 25 years before retiring several years ago.

He attended the Bellefountain United Methodist Church and was a member of the Geneva Masonic Lodge. He was active in the Boy Scouts program.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a barber in Berne for six years, and also worked at Home Diary, also in Berne, for several years. He was the manager of Miller’s Dairy Drive-In in Fort Recovery from 1973 to 1975.

Also surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Vicki Jo) Luebke, Fort Wayne; a son, Bradley Scott Hines, Aubrey, Texas; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Michael (Cynthia) Ware, Orchard Park, New York; a stepson, Frank Missicano, Fort Wayne; two sisters, Mrs. Jerry (Suzy) Saterlee, Chicago, and Mrs. Gerald (Kay) Weenser, Grabill; three grandchildren and one great-grancdhild.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to services at the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home with Pastor Gerald Weesner officiating.

Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery, northeast of Portland, where military rites will be conducted by Portland American Legion Post 211.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.

Memorials may be directed toward the Jay County Retirement Center Activity Fund or the Turnstone Center for Disabled Children and Adults of Fort Wayne.[[In-content Ad]]
