Sentenced for
obstruction of justice
A rural Bryant woman recently was sentenced on a felony charge.
Colleen M. Welling, 50, was sentenced May 15 on a charge of obstruction of justice, a class D felony.
A Jay Superior Court jury found her guilty of the charge on April 18.
Welling was sentenced to 18 months in the Jay County Jail, with all but 206 days suspended and 206 days credit for time served.
She was fined $1,000 and ordered to pay $160 in court costs.
She was placed on probation for one year.
Welling was arrested Nov. 8 by Jay County police. On Oct. 22, she wrote "void" on an order of sale document in the Jay County Clerk's office.
Pleads to two
A Portland man pleaded guilty Tuesday to two felony charges.
Joshua M. McCowan, 21, is facing charges of battery resulting in bodily injury and auto theft, both class D felonies.
He is set to be sentenced in Jay Superior Court June 10 at 3:15 p.m.
He was arrested Nov. 16 by Jay County police for stealing a 1991 Pontiac Grand Am belonging to a Portland resident. The theft occurred Nov. 15.
On Nov. 16, while was being arrested for auto theft, he kicked Jay County deputy John Hankins.[[In-content Ad]]
