Roy Havens

Roy L. Havens, 88, 2463 North 1200 West, Dunkirk, died Thursday night at Blackford Community Hospital, Hartford City.

He was born Oct. 20, 1919, in Jay County to James M. and Ocie (Coleman) Havens. He married Bernice Alene Doty on Oct. 3, 1969, in Blackford County. She survives.

He attended Trenton and Montpelier schools. He attended Blackford Baptist Temple and retired from Sheller-Globe Corp., Montpelier.

Other survivors include a son, Jim Havens, Fairmount; a sister, Mary Ruth Godfrey, Portland; two grandsons and three great-granddaughters.

Services are Monday at 1 p.m. at Glancy Funeral Homes - Walker Chapel, Montpelier, with the Rev. Larry Harvey presiding. Burial will be at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Montpelier.

Calling hours are Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

James Bard

James C. Bard, 54, Chicago, a Jay County native, died Wednesday at VA Westside hospital, Chicago.

He was born Nov. 19, 1953, in Chicago to Thomas and La Verne DeMarco. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include three sons, James, Patrick and Timothy Bard; a daughter, Melissa DeMarco; three sisters, Mary DeMarco, Delores Brinkerhoff, both of Chicago, and Mrs. Jack (Maureen) Grady, Portland; a brother, Robert Patrick; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services begin Monday at 9:15 a.m. at Thomas McInerney's Sons Funeral Home, Chicago, and continue with a Mass of resurrection at 10 a.m. at St. Gabriel Church. Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Ill.

Calling hours are Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m.

Jane Hofstetter

Jane Hofstetter, 82, a resident of Swiss Village Retirement Center, 1350 W. Main St., Berne, died Thursday at Adams Memorial Hospital, Decatur. She was a Pennville native.

She was born May 30, 1925 to Beryl and Phyllis (Perry) Denney Sr. She married Keith Hofstetter on April 24, 1943, in Decatur. He survives.

She graduated from Bryant High School in 1943.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Canista Card Club and the B-Y Club, both of Geneva.

Other survivors include two sons, Kevin Hofstetter, Bluffton, Rod Hofstetter, Tipton; a daughter, Karen Burke, Bluffton; a brother, Beryl "Bud" Denney, Bryant; two sisters, Arlen Godwin, Celina, Ohio, and Sue Shirk, Portland; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services are Monday at 10 a.m. at Swiss Village Retirement Center, with Anita Rediger officiating.

Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery, Geneva.

Calling hours are Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Swiss Village.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
