Sentenced for burglary

A Dunkirk man recently was sentenced to prison time for breaking into a Dunkirk business.

Sean Adams, 20, pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary, a class C felony.

His guilty plea was accepted and he was sentenced Tuesday in Jay Circuit Court to three years in the Indiana Department of Correction, with 33 months suspended and six days credit for time served.

He was placed on probation for 33 months.

He also was ordered to pay $160 in court costs and $500 in restitution to Miller and Sons Oil.

He was arrested Dec. 7 by Dunkirk police after he broke into the office of the business. After the burglary, police followed Adams' tracks in the snow to his house.

Sentenced for dealing

A rural Redkey man recently was sentenced in Jay Circuit Court after he pleaded guilty to a charge of dealing in a schedule II controlled substance, a class B felony.

Archie L. Massey Jr., 41, was sentenced May 23 to 14 years in the Indiana Department of Correction, with 90 days credit for time served.

He was ordered to pay $160 in court costs, and a $200 drug abuse prosecution and interdiction fee.

As part of a plea agreement, charges of dealing in a schedule III controlled substance and dealing in a schedule II controlled substance, both class B felonies, were dismissed.

Portland police arrested him on a warrant on Oct. 12. On April 16, 2007, he sold cocaine to a police informant.

Sentenced for

possession

A rural Portland woman recently was sentenced to more than four years in prison for possessing methamphetamine.

Dede R. Bisel, 36, pleaded guilty to the charge. She was sentenced May 23 to 10 years in the Indiana Department of Correction, with five years suspended and 130 days credit for time served.

She was ordered to pay $160 in court costs and a $200 fine.

Charges of dealing in meth, possession of chemical reagents or precursors with intent to manufacture a controlled substance and possession of marijuana were dismissed.

Bisel, a former Portland resident, was arrested July 6 after police served a search warrant at her home. Police found methamphetamine at her house.

Trial scheduled

A Jay Circuit Court jury trial for a Dunkirk man accused of selling drugs to a police informant has been set.

James Starr, 35, is facing two charges of dealing in a schedule II controlled substance, both class B felonies, and a charge of maintaining a common nuisance, a class D felony. His two-day jury trial is set to begin Sept. 4 at 8:30 a.m.

He was arrested March 27 on a warrant by Dunkirk police. On Dec. 5, he allegedly sold oxycodone and methadone to a police informant. The transaction allegedly occurred at his home.

Sentenced for driving

An Ohio man recently was sentenced in Jay Superior Court.

Damien Kroft, 28, Rockford, pleaded guilty to driving with an alcohol concentration equivalent of .15 or more, a class D felony.

His guilty plea was accepted Tuesday and he was sentenced to 18 months in the Jay County Jail, with all but 30 days suspended. The remaining sentence will be served on electronically monitored home detention.

He was fined $100 and ordered to pay $160.50 in court costs, a $200 alcohol and drug countermeasures fee and a $400 Jay Superior Court Substance Abuse Program fee.

He was placed on probation for 17 months, and is driver's license was suspended for one year.

As part of a plea agreement in the case, a charge of driving while intoxicated was dismissed.

He was arrested July 22 after he was pulled over by Indiana State Police at Ind. 67, near county road 450 East.

Police stopped him for speeding and not wearing a seat belt.[[In-content Ad]]
