CITY ACCIDENT

Vehicles driven by a Portland man and a Pennville woman collided Tuesday at 5:06 p.m. near the intersection of Meridian Street and Lafayette Street.

Donald C. Cook Sr., 56, 234 W. Second St., told Portland Police he was traveling south on Meridian Street, near the intersection of Lafayette Street, when his vehicle collided with a Buick car driven by Estaline Newhouse, 84, 8443 West 500 North. Newhouse told police she was turning into a driveway at the time of the collision.

Cook was driving a 1985 Plymouth van registered to Lock Busters, 234 W. Second St., Portland.

Damage to both vehicles was estimated between $750 and $1,000.

COUNTY ACCIDENT

A vehicle driven by a Portland woman collided with a deer on Friday at 1:15 p.m. in Noble Township.

Erin L. Hampshire, 20, 411 E. Walnut St., told Jay County police she was westbound on Ind. 26, a half mile west of county road 800 East, when she was unable to avoid a deer that entered from the north side of the road.

Damage to the 1996 Dodge Neon she was driving was estimated between $750 and $1,000.

CRIMESTOPPERS

Jay County CrimeStoppers is looking for an unidentified man that broke into the office in Ponderosa Restaurant in Portland on Sept. 13.

The white male was described as being about 5-feet-11 inches tall with dark curly hair.

He was seen by an employee running from the exterior office soon after she arrived at the restaurant at 5:15 a.m.

The man used a hammer, chisel and a screwdriver to pry open the office door and break the dial on the a safe located in the office.

A crime scene technician from the Indiana State Police was called to find fingerprints in the office.

Nothing was stolen from the business, located at 1002 N. Meridian St., Portland.

MOBILE VISIT

The mobile office of U.S. Rep. Mike Pence will be at two locations in Jay County on Monday, Sept. 22.

Members of Pence’s staff will be at Portland City Hall, 321 N. Meridian St., from 10 to 11 a.m., and at Dunkirk City Hall, 131 S. Main St., from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
