Relief

Several flood disaster relief centers across the state are closing, but the Federal Emergency Management Agency said this week that the Muncie center, at the Delaware County EMS building, 4501 East Memorial Drive, will remain open until further notice. The center is open Monday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Those seeking assistance are urged to first apply by phone by calling (800) 621-FEMA (3362) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Also this week, the Internal Revenue Service announced that those affected by flooding in Jay, Randolph, Blackford and Delaware counties will permitted extensions to file or pay taxes until Oct. 27, 2003.

Flood victims in eligible counties may also claim disaster-related casualty losses on their 2002 or 2003 federal income tax returns.
