Schedules announced for soccer, boys tennis (09/27/05)
Sectional schedules
Three Jay County teams learned their fates Monday as the sectional draws for boys tennis, boys soccer and girls soccer were announced.
The Patriots will meet up with Giants and Braves and Bruins in the first round, beginning with the boys tennis team’s match against the Marion Giants Thursday. The boys soccer team drew the Bellmont Braves in the first round, while the girls soccer team will open against the Blackford Bruins.
Jay County’s boys tennis team (11-3), which set a new school record for single-season wins Thursday, will begin its quest for its first sectional title since 2002 when it opens the Marion sectional Thursday at 4:30 p.m. It will play the host Giants, who are 0-14 on the year and lost 4-1 to the Patriots in the season opener for both teams.
The winner of the Jay County/Marion match will advance to Friday’s semifinals to meet Blackford at 4:30 p.m. The Patriots also defeated Blackford 4-1 earlier this season.
The other semifinal match will pit Mississinewa (4-11) against Madison-Grant (3-7).
The championship match will be Saturday at 10 a.m.
Jay County’s boys soccer team (8-5) will get a chance at revenge in their first sectional game when they play Bellmont in the Blackford sectional Monday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. Bellmont defeated the Patriots 2-1 this year.
Monday’s other first-round game will see Norwell take on Huntington North at 5:30 p.m. Two more first-round games will be played Wednesday, Oct. 12 with Marion Lakeview Christian meeting Blackford at 5:30 p.m. and South Adams playing Marion at 7:30 p.m.
Monday’s winners will meet in the first semifinal game Saturday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. with Wednesday’s winners to follow at 1 p.m.
The championship game will be Saturday at 7 p.m.
