Schemenaur receives law degree (06/24/04)
Taking note
Wesley A. Schemenaur, Portland, recently graduated from Ohio Northern’s Pettit College of Law at Ohio Northern University. He received the degree of Juris Doctor. He received the undergraduate degree from Ball State University, Muncie.
While at Ohio Northern, Schemenaur was involved in Moot Court, Board of Advocates, teaching assistant, gift committee, peer advisor and runner-up of Anthony Celebrezze Appellate Advocacy Competition.
JOINS ARMY RESERVES
Monica D. Culy, daughter of Kevin and Denise Culy, Portland, recently enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve’s Delayed Training Program and will report for active duty training July 21. She is a 2004 graduate of Jay County High School.
She will take basic and advanced individual training at Fort Jackson, S.C. and has chosen the position of personnel administration specialist as her military occupation. After completing training, she will be assigned to the Army Reserve’s 384th Military Police Battalion, Fort Wayne.
LIBRARY NEWS
Cartoonist Irene Joslin and Lee P. Sauer will be at the Jay County Public Library on Friday, June 25, at 2 p.m.
Irene Joslin is the editorial cartoonist for The Brown County Democrat in Nashville.
Lee P. Sauer is the editorial cartoonist for The Herald-Republican in Angola. He was at the Jay County High School prom drawing caricatures.
Both cartoonists will present a short program and take questions from the audience. Refreshments will be served. The program is open to teens entering sixth through 12th grade.
Lee P. Sauer will return on Tuesday, June 29, at 7 p.m. with David Reddick. Mr. Reddick is a nationally syndicated cartoonist and painter. He is employed at PAWS Inc., the company who writes the Garfield comic strip.
They will also present a short program and take questions. Refreshments will be served and the program is open to sixth through 12th grade students.
A Patriotic Craft Special will be held Saturday, June 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Jay County Public Library. Preschool and elementary aged children are welcome to come any time during the two hours, children under seven must be accompanied by an adult.
Fish Stories will be told and read in the community room on Monday, June 28, at 11 a.m. This program is also for preschool and elementary aged children.
There will also be programs held on Monday, July 5, and Monday, July 12, at 11 a.m.
A painting program will be held for teens on Friday, July 9, at 2 p.m. and again on Tuesday, July 13, at 7 p.m.
DEAN’S LIST
Erica Pursifull, a junior at Taylor University in Upland, was named to the dean’s list for the spring term. She is the daughter of Eric and Loria Pursifull and graduated from Jay County High School.
Jennifer Dirksen, Portland, was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Vincennes University. She is majoring in Commercial Art Computer Graphics.
RETIRED TEACHERS
The Fairview United Methodist Church hosted the meeting of the Jay County Retired Teachers on June 14. Twenty-five members enjoyed the luncheon.
President Bob Freemyer gave the invocation and lead the pledge to the flag in celebration of Flag Day.
Sharon Hammers and Jackie McCollum decorated the tables with red, white, and blue items.
Joyce Beck presented the devotions on Hands, our hand are and extension of our hearts in our work and play.
Sidney Austin entertained with his program on Abraham Lincoln. Merle Lucterhand was the door prize winner.
The next meeting will be on Monday, August 9, at Westchester United Methodist Church with the Mossburg Strings.
FORT FFA RETREAT
Fort Recovery FFA Chapter Officers recently attended a two day FFA Officer Retreat at Hueston Woods in Oxford, Ohio.
During the retreat, officers planned the 2004-2005 school year, discussed officer responsibilities and expectations and worked on team building activities, set goals, worked on the FFA Chapter Program of Activities and enjoyed the cabins, lodge, swimming and boating.
Those attending were President Jackie Lennartz, Vice President Mary Will, Assistant Vice President Dale Brunswick, Treasurer Josh Gaerke, Secretary Rachel Will, Reporter Beth Lennartz, Assistant Reporter Kelsie Will, Sentinel Mike Schoenlein, student advisor Adam Sutter, and agricultural education teachers and FFA advisors Michael Gower and Joseph Hawk.[[In-content Ad]]
