Schmidt earns gold (02/29/08)
Taking Note
Jacob Schmidt, a senior at Jay County High School, competed in the Indiana State School Music Association District Solo Piano contest at Belmont High School in Decatur on Feb. 2. He received a gold rating medal and a perfect score and advanced to the state contest at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis on Feb. 16.
Schmidt also received a gold rating medal at the state contest. His music selection was "Rhapsody in B minor" by Brahms. He has been playing the piano since age 5, first taking lessons from Helen Sanders and is currently studying with Rebecca Burnett, rural Union City.
He is the son of Gary and Diana Schmidt, Portland.
Receives scholarship
Jeremy Siegrist was first in scholarship testing his junior and senior year at The University of Northwestern Ohio, and has received a full, four year academic scholarship.
He is a senior at Fort Recovery High School.
Attends District
Michael Gower and Joe Hawk, Fort Recovery FFA advisors, recently attended the District Five FFA Evaluations held at Upper Valley JVS in Piqua, Ohio.
There were 11 members who applied for the American FFA Degree; nine members applied for State FFA Degree; and 10 members applied for Proficiency Awards.
The officer books were evaluated. Treasurer Tyler Huelskamp, received a gold rating; reporter Beverly Lennartz and historian Kelly Thien, earned a gold rating on the chapter scrapbook; and secretary, Valerie Fortkamp, received a gold rating.
Receives degrees
The Fort Recovery FFA Chapter recently held its Chapter FFA Degree Ceremony with 16 second year members, enrolled in an agricultural class, receiving pins. They were Kelsey Brockman, Cody Fiely, Adam Guggenbiller, Eric Heinrichs, Stephanie Heitkamp, Ashley Kaiser, Cody Kaiser, Jessie Link, Josh Overman, Mark Post, Chris Rosenbeck, Tyler Schlarman, Josh Wendel, Shelby Westgerdes, Matt Whitacre and Brandon Wilker.
Dean's list
Lauren Elizabeth Budde and Nicole Marie VanSkyock, both of Portland, have made the dean's list at Anderson University for the fall semester of 2007-08.[[In-content Ad]]
