Schoenherr leads Indians to victory

FORT RECOVERY - It had been a long time coming.

The Fort Recovery High School baseball team won its first game of the year, by a run, over Fairlawn. Since then, the Indians had been mired in a 37-day drought, losing 18 straight games.

But the Tribe finally snapped the skid Thursday, erasing a 1-0 deficit with a six-run third inning on the way to defeating the Memorial Roughriders 8-4.

Ethan Schoenherr led the FRHS hitters, going 3-for-3 with a double and two runs. A.J. Backs had two hits, including a double, two runs and an RBI, Nathan Keller finished with two hits and a run and Nathan Fortkamp notched a single, a run and an RBI.

After Fort Recovery's big third inning, the Roughriders pulled to within two runs. But the Indians added two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for the final margin.

Schoenherr earned the victory as he went the distance and struck out 10 batters. He gave up four runs - one earned - on four hits and five walks.

JV softball wins finale

FORT RECOVERY - Kendra Stammen and Melissa Lochtefeld led Fort Recovery to an 11-2 victory over the Shawnee Indians in their final game of the year.

After giving up a run in the top of the first inning, FRHS took control with four in the bottom of the first and two in the second. It added four more in the fifth as it pulled away.

Stammen and Lochtefeld each finished with runs and an RBI in the win. Lochtefeld had a single and a double, and Stammen went 2-for-3.

Becca Tobe and Jasmine Bechtol added two hits, a run and an RBI apiece.

Tobe also picked up the win for the Tribe (6-16), striking out 10 batters in six innings. She allowed two runs - one earned - on six hits and four walks.

JH track places ninth

MINSTER, Ohio - The Fort Recovery Middle School track teams each finished ninth out of 10 teams Thursday at the Midwest Athletic Conference Championships.

The boys team scored 23 points, just one more than last-place New Knoxville, while Minster earned the title with 108.5. The girls scored 19 points to finish six ahead of Parkway while Coldwater won with 138.

There were just a handful of top-five efforts for the Indians, with Alex Shelton leading the way. She placed second in the 100-meter dash in 13.92 seconds.

Bobby Mattraw had the top result for the boys team as he was fourth in the shot put at 38 feet, 1 inch.

David Trobridge finished fifth in all three of his events, posting times of 12.79 in the 100 dash, 27.0 in the 200 dash and 1:00.84 in the 400 dash. Elle Sutter was fifth in the girls 1,600 run in 5:57.51.[[In-content Ad]]
