Scholarship fund gets donation (02/06/08)
Taking Note
A donation has been made to Arts Place scholarship program in honor of a Portland doctor.
Dr. Charlene Barton has made a donation of $30,000 in memory of Dr. Kathleen Galbraith. The scholarship will be known as "Dr. G's Memorial Scholarship Fund" and will be used to support scholarships for students in Arts Place's educational programs.
Fort library
The Friends of the Fort Recovery Public Library will have a book sale beginning Monday, Feb. 11, and continuing through Saturday, Feb. 16. Paperback and hardback books, videos and CD's will be for sale.
A kids' craft day will be Monday, Feb. 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Story time will be Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. for area children.
Sign-up is available at the library for a chance to win free tickets to "Madeline and the Bad Hats" on April 13 at the Darke County Center for the Arts in Greenville, Ohio.
Fort Recovery Public Library is located at 113 N. Wayne St.
Call for artists
Conner Prairie in Fishers is looking for artists to participate in the Art and Craft Marketplace at its fourth annual Indiana Festival on June 7 and 8.
The Marketplace features works handmade by artisans and work relating to the artist's culture or heritage.
Send three quality images of work, plus one booth shot to [email protected]. Include a short bio with a description of the work, price range and list of previous shows by March 1.

The National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture will have an academic conference on April 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Weiler Building in Portland.
The conference "Current Research in Great Lakes Native American Culture" will be hosted by the John Jay Center for Learning and sponsored by Jay County Visitor and Tourism Bureau.
Six speakers will present their research on Earthwork Landscape of the New Castle Phase, Ghosts of the Lenape, Rivercane Traditions, The Miami Language, Life Along the Kankakee River and Investigations at the Ana Lynn Site.
The cost is $30 for early registration, $20 for students and $35 for late registration. A catered lunch is included.
