School counselors attend conference (11/17/05)

Tammy Velasco and Laura McCollum, counselors at East Jay and West Jay Middle Schools, respectively, recently attended the 2005 Indiana School Counselor Association annual conference “Reach for the Stars.”
School counselors throughout Indiana gathered at the Adam’s Mark Hotel in Indianapolis to hear author William Strauss.
Velasco and McCollum also made a presentation “Middle School Guidance Standards: Are Your Students Getting Them All?”
Workshop planned
The Geneva Public Library, 305 E. Line St., will have a free workshop on preservation techniques on Friday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Preservation expert Noraleen Young will explain how to save historic documents, books and photos. Also a basic session on PastPerfect Museum software will be given.
Anyone attending will be asked to volunteer one hour of preservation work for the library. For more information, call (260) 368-7270.
Grief workshop
Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in Dunkirk will offer a six week course using the material Growing Through Grief; Personal Healing. The next session will be Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 6:30 p.m. Continuing sessions will be Nov. 29, Dec. 6, 13 and Jan. 3. For more information, call (765) 768-7273.
Showman recognized
The Eastern Indiana Livestock Breeders Association recently recognized outstanding showmen.
Recognized from Jay County was Nick Stout, a senior at JCHS and the son of Shane Stout.
Outstanding junior leaders were senior Travis Ford, the son of Dwane and Terri Ford and junior Cameron Wolford, the daughter of Heather and Gary Binegar.
Outstanding judge was Ben Lyons, a junior and the son of Joe and Connie Lyons.
Christmas Walk
The Whitewater Valley Railroad in Connersville will have trains going to Metamora for the annual Christmas Walk. Trains will run on Friday, Nov. 25, and Saturdays and Sundays from Nov. 26 through Dec. 18.
Round trip tickets are $20 per person and children under 12 are $12. Pre-paid reservations are required and can be made by calling (765) 825-2054 or visit www.whitewatervalleyrr.org.
Military exhibit
A military exhibit will be Sunday, Nov. 20, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Mercer County Historical Museum in Celina, Ohio.
