Schools name winners of speech contest
Taking Note
Students from Westlawn and Pennville elementaries recently competed in the Optimist Oratorical Contest with the theme “If I Were the Leader of the Free World, the First Issue I Would Address Would Be…”
First place in the girls division at Westlawn was Karlie Bullard, a fourth grade student. She is the daughter of Kristie and Keith Bullard.
First place in the boys division at Westlawn was Gabe Faulkner, a fourth grade student. He is the son of Holly and John Faulkner.
First place in the girls division from Pennville was Kimber Harris, a fifth grade student. She is the daughter of Stacy and Paul Harris.
First place in the boys division from Pennville was Gavin Corwin, a fifth grade student. He is the son of Alicia Corwin and Justin Saxman.
Runners-up were Harlaina Knapp, fifth grade, the daughter of William and Melissa Knapp, and Caleb Webster, fourth grade, the son of Nikki Ninde and Aaron Webster.
Dean’s list
Two Jay County residents made the dean’s list at Wabash College in Crawfordsville.
Kaleb Hemmelgarn, a junior, the son of Doug and Karen Hemmelgarn, Portland.
Jared Valentine, a freshman, the son of Mark and Marianne Valentine, Portland.
