Science fair winners named

Winners of the Pennville Science Fair were recently named. Kamylee Stephens (third grade) won for “Osmosis of An Egg.” She is the granddaughter of Teresa Squier. Hallie Saxman (third grade) won for “Building Beaches.” She is the daughter of Alicia Corwin and Justin Saxman. Alaina Weaver (third grade) won for “A Day’s Different Temperature.” She is the daughter of Phillip and Amy Weaver.
Abigail Benter (fourth grade) won for “Warm Water Rises, Cold Water Sinks.” She is the daughter of Scott and Brenda Benter. Alyssa Motter (fourth grade) won for “My Groovy Lava Lamp.” She is the daughter of Jeremy and Melany Hollopeter. Justice Murphy (fourth grade) won for “Determining Strength of a Lens.” He is the son of Jason and Cindy Murphy.
Allison Jobe (fifth grade) won for “Color Your Heart.” She is the daughter of Brian and Lisa Jobe. Ethan Andreshak (fifth grade) won for “Hear, There, Everywhere.” He is the son of Michael and Kerri Andreshak. Kymia Harris (fifth grade) won for “Popcorn.” She is the daughter of Rebecca Harris.    
They will advance to the East Central Indiana Regional Science Fair to be held at Ball State University on Feb. 23.
The winner of the Isaac Knapp District Dental Society Award was Lane Chapman (fourth grade) for “Corrosiveness of Soda On Your Teeth.” The award is sponsored by Dunn Family Dental Care of Portland.

Library news
Speed book sharing will be held Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Jay County Public Library. Come prepared to share three minutes about several books you have read recently.
The Crochet Club will meet Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Bring supplies and share ideas and projects.

Small falcon
Jeff Canada, Indiana Audubon Society Conservation Committee Chair, along with America’s smallest falcon, the kestrel, will visit Geneva on March 3 at 2 p.m.

Coming productions
Jay County Civic Theatre, Inc. will present Little Women, a Little Musical by Jay Richards at Arts Place in Portland. The play is based on Louisa May Alcott’s classic 1869 novel.
Show times are Thursday, Feb. 28, Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, March 3 at 2 p.m.

The Jay County High School Theatre Department will present the play “Once Upon a Mattress” at JCHS. Performances will be Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 3 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door and two for one coupons are available at JCHS and Norm’s Place II in Portland.    

Dean’s lists
Betsy Homan, Fort Recovery, was named to the fall dean’s list at the University of the Sciences. She is a master of occupational therapy student.
Michelle Bruggeman and Kaley Muhlenkamp, Jay County, were named to the president’s list for the fall semester at International Business College in Fort Wayne. Bruggeman is majoring in travel and hospitality and Muhlenkamp is majoring in graphic design. To be named to the president’s list, students must have a 3.8 GPA or higher.
Area students were named to the fall dean’s list at Ball State University.
